That building of yours along the rails was built as the Light rail was a-coming. Residents and owners knew it was on a rail line. It was as plain as day. Once the light rail started operating the trains would slow for each crossing and blow horn, per protocol. This meant from 5:45 am until late night the trains both directions announced themselves beside your building. There were no other new residential building on the line at that time, only the long timers a bit further away. Your building mobilised to complain about the disruption and was successful in changing the protocol to no horn unless an obstruction, which was a rare occurrence. Can you imagine the clamor now if that protocol had been maintained?

CBJ on White Point Partners rezoning request for the Rosemont and  the former convenience store parcel at South and Kingston. White Point already owns the Artisan Station space adjacent to the rail.

Given the lot size there, 18,000sqft, I have a feeling this will be more than a mid-rise.

White Point seeking to rezone to TOD-UC, the densest of the TOD zones adopted by Council last year.  It is a conventional rezoning request, so plans for the rezoning don't have to be submitted.  That's really the pith of the article.

Not sure if this would be the best topic to post this in. But does anyone know if there could be any infill in these loops off of 277 in Southend? A mid rise could work in these.

I know people have talked about maybe adding in a park or something before.

The loops would have to be removed for development to occur. I don't foresee that happening anytime soon as both are heavily used.

Maybe a cylinder building would work. The Hotel Angeleno is a cylinder in LA and shoved between an offramp, busy road that loops around it, and 12 lanes of interstate traffic. Build a cylinder on the 277 exit to South Blvd with the main entrance being off South. Retaining walls to level out the lot?

That's exactly what I was thinking! Something like that would be perfect.

It only took 12 years but Lowes finally activated their streetscape. The outparcel is now tool rental -- first time the space has had consumer access. I don't believe there is actually any sidewalk access but I guess this is better than a building full of straw and snakes.

^^ that is great and like you said it has been years.  I originally thought it was going to be their garden center or something but tool rental will do good intown like that.

Their tool rental has been pretty great, perfect time to open while everyone's at home..  The people working there said they've been open about 5 weeks, all the equipment is brand new.  Took advantage of rentals to install a new floor recently and have an aerator reservation for this week!

Flying into Charlotte from Boston today - on the way to RDU - I overheard a couple from LA saying how beautiful Charlotte looked and how much bigger it was than they thought.  I have to concur.  It's an impressive city -- Charlotte is awesome.
