But at these prices for such cheap-looking construction? I mean, South End is no international destination. There's no "entertainment row," no festive corridor, not even a signature park or plaza as far as I can tell... So baffling. Is walkability such a rarity in Charlotte that any place that appears to be the least bit walkable and pedestrian-oriented suddenly becomes Charlotte's version of London's Soho district? Its precast concrete with 11 foot ceilings. Thats not cheap construction. It will be a very quiet, very sturdy condo, and they'll be able to piece the building together in a matter of months, and will be able to recreate nearly the same format in 6 different places in Charlotte. I think they are genius. Edited August 19, 2020 by Guest

I'd bet these get gobbled up quite quickly.

I'd bet these get gobbled up quite quickly. Basically very few condos and most are in the $750K or more price range in small boutique buildings in Myers Park, Eastover etc and one complex of million dollar condos in Cornelius. We should be happy anyone is building them as there is great risk much more so that apartments, townhomes or SF homes. Raleigh on the other hand seems as many projects if not more than Charlotte does in all price ranges. 7
CriticalT 92 Report post Posted August 22, 2020 Someone on NextDoor is claiming Leather & Lace was sold and will be a "bank." Anyone hear anything? Leaving is reasonable but a bank? I dont buy it. It's a small building with little parking. The front looks a lot nicer but i miss those frescos

The stripper smell can never be removed from the building without total demolition and extensive soil remediation.

Corner retail tenant at Solis apartments seems to be a vision eyeglass retailer of some sort. tarhoosier 5548 Report post Posted August 29, 2020 (edited) @Mgelbach That building of yours along the rails was built as the Light rail was a-coming. Residents and owners knew it was on a rail line. It was as plain as day. Once the light rail started operating the trains would slow for each crossing and blow horn, per protocol. This meant from 5:45 am until late night the trains both directions announced themselves beside your building. There were no other new residential building on the line at that time, only the long timers a bit further away. Your building mobilised to complain about the disruption and was successful in changing the protocol to no horn unless an obstruction, which was a rare occurrence. Can you imagine the clamor now if that protocol had been maintained? Edited August 29, 2020 by tarhoosier 5

Given the lot size there, 18,000sqft, I have a feeling this will be more than a mid-rise.

Nick2 5607 Report post Posted October 4, 2020 Not sure if this would be the best topic to post this in. But does anyone know if there could be any infill in these loops off of 277 in Southend? A mid rise could work in these. I know people have talked about maybe adding in a park or something before.

The loops would have to be removed for development to occur. I don't foresee that happening anytime soon as both are heavily used.
