Park and Kingston joined instagram. I wish other projects would too. I wanted to share some of their pix. I think the project is turning out awesome (at least from pictures)

Wish they'd hurt up and finish Camden Studios. I'd love to see more progress next time I'm in town for thanksgiving.

I don't think I've shared this. These are the elevations for Quarters at Morehead (still don't understand that name)
I love the scale, and I think its a decently handsome building. I don't understand the Buckingham Palace gates around the transformers, and hate that the developer "Doesn't do Retail." All in all it will create good foot traffic and hopefully help that area develop more.

While There is definitely no retail, I count 7 "townhome stoops" So that will certainly help.

I'd reckon it's referring to "Quarters" in the sense of taking up in/lodging in a location. ie, "quarter in the house" or "give quarter to the family." I think naval tradition refers to "quarters" as where sailors/officers lodge, too. (see: star trek)

I get the reference and everything, i just think it's a weird thing to call a luxury apartment building...

Ah, gotcha. I figure most developers have a "developer thesaurus" to generate names with an appendix that can be referenced if they wish to "british up" the spelling. little of A, little of B, BAM, marketable name.

The Theatre Centre at Trafalgar Square.  What a neighbourhood.

That's where I want to write my rent cheques to.

It looks ok I guess, but is not helping the 1-note look of Southend's apartment boom. And while I am pleasantly surprised to have some patio/porches at street level (having very low expectations after the "we don't do retail" comment), those are only towards the Carson st. side, while 2/3 of the Morehead frontage is a blank wall with some vents.

Meck Times reports that the Carson-South (Simpson Lighting) project will break ground "within the next month."

The article is subscriber only (and I am not) but the first paragraph tease contains the above info

Here's a link to the construction company's website. Five stories, maybe some retail??? Probably just common space for the apt building on the first floor, but always wishful thinking...

No Retail, however, based on the siteplans there will be a very interesting plaza leading towards the Rail Trail. I will post them later today.

I was actually told by a neighboring space (they will be sharing the parking garage) that the the city required retail (and was partially reason for some of the delay)... Could be wrong, but that's what I was told

Really!? I will check up on this, that would be phenomenal news.

I wish we could get a few more smaller "niche" apartments then these huge block-sized projects.   In the long run, I think it'll look horrible to have giant building after giant building.

I believe the 'niche' spots are on the way to fill up the nooks and crannies the large 'block buster' developments left behind.

Take a look at some of the more recent rezoning petitions for South End, especially the size of the lots:

TOD-M 0.2402 acres, east side of South Boulevard near the intersection of Rensselaer Avenue and South Boulevard.

TOD-M 0.214 acres, west side of South Tryon Street between West Catherine Street and West Bland Street.

TOD-M 0.60 acres, southeast corner at the intersection of South Tryon Street and East Carson Boulevard.

TOD-M 8,371 square feet, west corner at the intersection of South Church Street and West Palmer Street.

TOD-R(CD) SPA 1.15 acres, west corner at the intersection of East Worthington Avenue and Cleveland Avenue.

MUDD(CD) 0.45 acres located on the west side of South Boulevard between East Kingston Avenue and East Boulevard.

Also, construction of the 36 Unit Gateway Homes Project on Catherine Street, discussed here, is actually between the Cell Tower and Lighting store, not on the lot of the Car Wash. I was very surprised to see them utilizing such an 'infill' plot for these and am looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Center City Partners is a good resource for Uptown/Southend facts.

Uptown
• 2000: 8,100
• 2005: 11,500
• 2010: 14,500
• 2013 est.: 15,365
South End
• 2000: 1,000
• 2005: 1,440
• 2010: 3,200
• 2013 est.: 5,000

((also worth noting CCP defines Southend as ending at Tremont, not New Bern))
