Flooded Greenway 3-15-08

This morning I took a nice walk down the Liz Hair Nature Walk (aka Greenway) starting at East Blvd. and walked to CMC.

4 hours later, it was under water!! WOW!

oh, yeah. that creek's no joke. Thats why the county had to buy out a ton of houses that were in the floodplain near Park Rd Shopping center - they were continually getting flooded during big storms.

Wow! Great pics - thanks for posting those. I've walked or ridden my bike along that trail countless times, but I don't ever remember seeing water quite that high before. I saw the creek well over its banks just a bit upstream from that this afternoon at Charlottetowne Avenue and was amazed at the water level. I think it's been at least a couple of years since we've seen creek levels rise that much here in Charlotte!

This is sort of the whole idea of these greenways, is they provide a use for the floodplain around the creeks for the 99% of the time that they aren't flooded. I often go along Irwin Creek around Frazier Park and you usually see the path muddied after rains.
