Rendering is representative of an ArtSpace Project.

The Council for Culture & Arts for Tallahassee/Leon County (COCA) engaged Artspace in early 2007 to assess the potential for their "Arts On Gaines" project concept to become a reality. The findings of that initial visit and a regional survey of artists and arts organizations that followed, were extremely positive. Thank you to all who participated!

In January 2008, COCA received a great show of support in the form of a very generous $375,000 grant from the Knight Foundation to move the project forward. COCA then invited Artspace to undertake the project's development.

The project envisions affordable space where creative individuals including performing and visual artists may live and work, have studio space, and where a variety of arts organizations and creative businesses may relocate and thrive. The Boys’ Choir of Tallahassee and the Tallahassee Ballet are two of the anchor tenants for the arts incubator space.

The next phase of work commencing in 2008, includes identifying a site and securing site control.

Urban Entertainment & Development Anchor

The Cultural District envisioned in the Cultural Plan and the Community Redevelopment Plan will now have an anchor: The Arts Park on Gaines, a 90,000square foot arts incubator facility.

On site:

A 5,000 square foot open assembly space will be used for regularly scheduled theater, concerts, and film events. Unlike a fixed theater, a flexible space

can be configured in various ways, with seating in chairs, at tables, or on risers. The flat floor makes it ideal for banquets, trade shows, and meetings as well.

More than 20,000 square feet of multi-purpose rooms can be filled in the daytime by the school district
