Republican NYC Congressman Vito Fossella has been implicated in fathering an out-of-wedlock daughter. The 43 year old was stopped for drunk driving, and now this info is surfacing.

Oh yes, he's one of those family values Republicans.

We're all so disappointed in John. Most of us had placed a lot of trust in his judgement and character......

I just hope that Elizabeth Edwards doesn't appear at a podium with John, "in support". I find it so confounding that political wives not only have to go through the heartbreak of a spouse's infedelity, but they also have to stand there at those podiums and be humiliated publically in front of the whole world.

The cheating is bad but worse is that he lied to the American people. You can no longer trust him or his word. What make this worse than Bill Clinton is the fact that he cheated on his wife while she had cancer. It truly a disappointment and he could have been a star in the democratic party. Some of our greatest presidents, FDR and JFK cheated on their wives. But in those cases, the people didnt find out until after they were elected. In general if you are president and you cheat on your wife, thats a personal issue, I dont care but when one lies about it, I cant trust him.

First of all let me state that I am no prude. I grew up during the Sexual Revolution of the 1970s, and I've been liberated for decades.

.........BUT, when someone is running for the most important job in the world, I would expect better judgement and better self control. The office of the President deserves better than to be smeared by sex scandals.

This is a very very sad time for Democrats. One of our best and brightest has fallen in disgrace. Most of us had such high hopes for John. It's doubtful that he will be able to (politically) recover from this.

We still love you John, and wish the best for you. But you have let us all down.

What makes these people think they can somehow get away with anything? Stupid is the only word I can think of. Oh well, I hold Edwards to no less of a standard than all the others in this thread. He should slink away just like the rest of them.

This isn't being judgemental, when you put yourself out there to run for office and lead the rest of us you should have more self control and WILL be held to a higher standard.

Oh, and he was running to get the Democratic nomination -- WHAT IF HE HAD?? He should have never run knowing this could some out at some point and ruining any chances of getting new blood from the other side in office. Selfish.

Another distraction.

What's more interesting is that another John -- a John who's running for president -- cheated on his wife too. No substantive media coverage on that though.

See, the first Mrs. McCain was badly injured in a car wreck while Mr. McCain was in Vietnam. She had several surgeries and ended up looking much different than she did prior to the accident. Their marriage faded after he returned home and he was seen chasing after the young lady who would eventually become the second Mrs. McCain soon after. And even though he wrote something contradictory in his book, Mr. McCain applied for a marriage license with the second Mrs. McCain before he and the first Mrs. McCain were divorced. Hmmm...

So while we get distracted by John Edwards' lurid affair, let's try not to forget about the affairs of those whose political careers are still relevant.

John Edwards' affair has become common knowledge, now that Elizabeth Edwards went on Oprah to discuss it. Did he father a baby outside his marriage? Yes or no, his political career is of course over.

Something I remember from the last presidential campaign---when asked about full gay marriage, John Edwards claimed "I'm just not there yet".

But he was apparently "there" with having an extramarital affair, when his wife was fighting cancer. So much for the sanctity of marriage.

I don't know how anybody missed the scandal associated with Portland (OR)'s mayor, Sam Adams, and the relationship with an intern of Oregon House Rep. Kim Thather. It's become apparent that the mayor and the intern had a sexual relationship, but the question surrounding the situation is when it began, when the intern was still underage (17) or after he turned 18. Adams admitted to him and the intern sharing an intimate kiss when he was still 17, but refused to confirm exactly when their sexual relationship began.

Two more GOP leaders have fallen from grace....Sen. Ensign (R-Nevada) and of course Gov. Mark Sanford (R-S.C.)

Sen. Ensign's problems aren't just about the affair he had, but the fact that he had paid a "severance" to her from questionable sources.

And of course the whole world is snickering about Mark Sanford and his Argentine mistress. By the way, did ya'll notice the girl standing behind Sanford in his press conference? She was smiling and holding back giggles throughout the Governor's speech! One must wonder if she was a gleeful Democrat

Sex is a natural thing, but I honestly think these scandals are disgraceful and disgusting. It really bothers me that it is happening so frequently, and the fact that so many of them seem to be members of the GOP, it just solidifies (to me at least) why I left that hypocritical party.

Gov. Sanford returned to work today. He met with his staff and "apologized" for his affair, and rambled about "god's law" and other malarkey. I suppose he hopes South Carolinians will be "godly" and forgive him.

In the 90s, along with fellow Republican Larry Craig, Sanford ranted and raved about Bill Clinton's affairs. Both men called for the President's resignation. Of course neither of them resigned when their own extramarital relations were revealed. :shades:

I must say, one of Sanford's e-mails to his mistress had me in stitches: the part about "........the erotic beauty of you holding yourself (or two magnificent parts of yourself)"

Someone dug up an existing, albiet old, law in South Carolina from the 1880's that says adultery, no matter where it occurs, is illegal. They are claiming that since he broke the law he can be forced to resign.

Isn't it always great how those that clamour about protecting traditional marriage never seem to grasp the concept for their own life. I guess marriage is between a man, a woman, and another man or woman on the side.

Well, South Carolina GOP has been a buzz of GOP mishaps over the past 3 weeks. I think the SC GOP needs to seriously reevaluate what their priniciples they stand for and become a template for reform for the party. I say this because most of the SC GOP is represents the 'retarded' regressive end of the GOP, so if they repent and reform it might just help save the GOP.

Wow there was a rumor on TV "news" that there is a homemade porno starring John Edwards and his mistress! Talk about lurid.....and I still remember John's words about gay marriage during the campaign: "I'm not there yet."

As I said before in a prior post, he sure "was there" with his own brand of adultery, tom-catting with some woman, while wanting to deny me of marriage equality.

Rep. Peter King (R-NY) has publicly called Michael Jackson a "pervert and pedophile".

Well we all know what that means. When Republicans get on a high-horse of morality that means they are usually living a secret perverse lifestyle themselves. Heads up guys, it's a matter of time until Rep. King is caught in a bathroom or a sleazy hotel, doing unseemly things.

California state senator, Roy Ashburn-R, an anti gay marriage goofball, has been arrested for a DUI. It was reported that he got pulled over after having left a gay bar.

It makes me happy to read things like this as it makes folks aware of how much hypocrisy is around us.
