^ OK, I'll give you that ours is not the tallest, but it is definitely not the weakest. BofA Corp Center is a gorgeous building and its design will still hold up years from now, longer than Wachovia's faddish "handle-in-the-roof" design being built now.

Courtesy of Skyscraperpage, here are all of the Bank of America skyscrapers in the US:

Keep in mind the Charlotte building was built as the corporate HQ of NationsBank and was done, basically, as a response to 1 First Union. (Wachovia now) and the C&S tower in Atlanta, (BofA now)

All of the towers, aside from the the one in Charlotte and the new one in NYC were built by other banks.

The Bank of America Corp Center is very often considered one of the most beautiful bulidings in the country. Honestly having seen the New BofA building in NYC pretty much 2-3 times a week for the past 2 months, its awkward, and nowhere near as magestic as the Corp Center. An 871 foot tower building in 1992 in a city of about 350,000 people is definately phenomenal in my opinion.

In September 1987, NCNB selected Pelli's design and announced that the building would have between 55 and 60 floors.

NationsBank was formed December 31, 1991.

The Corporate Center's first tenants moved in in May 1992.

There's no way NationsBank increased the floor count of the project by 5 (or, if the Charlotte Observer's archives are incorrect, 16) floors in time for opening in five months.

It's a trivial point, but we might as well get it right.
