Google "Street View" of Little Rock

34 posts in this topic

I just found out that this week Google released "Street View" for the LR/NLR Metro area on Google Maps. If you've never checked this out, it is mind boggling! A panoramic image taken at 20 foot intervals for just about every a street for the entire metro area (several counties, even includes rural roads)! Incredible! Just go to Google Maps online and select the "Street View" tab. You can even pan around at each spot. Just place your pointer/cursor over the view window and use your arrow keys.

This was cool enough that I ALMOST created a new topic....but thought better of it.

Anyway, this is a pretty big deal for LR since only about 30 cities in the entirety of the US have this feature (just zoom out over the US to see what cities are available).

Seriously, we can now use this to post links to views for topics (just select "Link to this page" from whatever view your in, and it works great - even records your particular view angle, not just the location!).

p.s. I guess I'm simple-minded, but this serves as HOURS of mindless entertainment for me!

You are definitely not simple minded. This is VERY cool, and I'm absolutely schocked LR has gotten street view so early. For comparison, Atlanta doesn't even have streetview for the most part.

I'm extremely impressed. I wonder why they did LR so early?

STREET VIEW FOR LR?

WHOA!

Seriously, i can't believe it. That's awesome.

.....

edit:

This is too ridiculously cool, especially considering LR is one of the few cities with it if you zoom out on the google map. 1 of 40 cities (or less).

Ok, now, I'm not 100% sure...but I could be seeing my parents red dodge caravan at the corner of scott and markham, going up the main street bridge. I lived in Block II lofts over the summer, and they visited me every 2 weeks or so. This is ridick.

edit 2:

i see my car at my workplace. Crazy.

edit 3: This extends to pine bluff and heber springs. This is insane...

edit 4: teh street view is MASSIVE. It covers like 1/7 of the state. Benton, Sheridan, Pine Bluff, Stuttgart, etc. I guess it might be because there are fewer roads. If you look at the area covered by LR's street view, it's much bigger than, say, Dallas's.

This is insane.

They actually got a picture of me while I was outside doing yard work.

Now that Google has released "Street View" for the greater Little Rock metro, I've decided it was significant enough (or certainly relevant enough for this board) to start its own topic - so I've merged the recent posts to this new discussion.

Post your interesting "view" links here:

Nice skyline shot from near the Chester Street exit on I-640 (cloudy day):

A view from Fort Roots (NLR VA) toward the downtown skyline:

Not the best representation, but my favorite view of the River Market (when actually driving) at the Cantrell/La Harpe exit from I-30 south (post 300 Third but pre-River Market Tower):

Enter the time warp (several different images spliced together incoherently): http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&oe...9169286481,,0,5

Dead end island of concrete, the only way out is through a patch of forest:

The State Capitol:

I've found myself fascinated with the ghetto. I'm cruising street corners looking for a ho or some rocks. No luck so far.

Some of the views don't translate well in this medium. That Fort Roots site Architect linked is where I watch the fireworks with my family every year, that skyline view is amazing.

I just realized you could pan up. Hardly a discovery, but it makes a difference when you're trying to get that full shot of the State Capitol:

New Federal Courthouse building:

Capitol Ave, one of the few roads that truly feels dense:

Looks like your link is of Vino's and the fire station.

Looking at 28th Street where it cuts through UALR the vehicle must have gotten in the east bound left turn only lane and detoured through the parking lot. They have the Stephens Center but missed the front of the Alumni Building.

I also noticed they went through Roselawn Cemetery, I could see my uncle's grave.

When was the photography done, it looks like last summer to me?

Is it suppose to be a view of the capitol?

Pretty interesting. I guess I'm surprised they did so much of the area outside of Little Rock. They went pretty far out and got quite a few rural roads as well.

Out of curiosity, why would meth lab be your first guess as to the cause of a house fire?
