Everyone check the Baton Rouge page of Wikipedia. I've done a good bit of editing, especially with adding the Culture part. :D

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baton_Rouge%2...uisiana#Culture

You should add in music.

Baton Rouge has a good live music scene....live after five, The Varsity, Boutin's, Spanish Moon, and the rent-a-shows at the centroplex and P-Mac. Tons of music around especially if you like rock or cajun. It's not as big for country as I thought it would be, but Cajun does have a big country music influence.

We can also play up the magic of 100,000+ football fans on saturday nights....and mention how Walk On's and Canes started right there around LSU.

Famous singers: Tim McGraw and Faith Hill own a home on False River. Better Than Ezra was started at LSU and you might want to look into the origins of Johnny Rivers and Spank the Monkey.

We can also mention in the recreation the bike trail, the boat races and watercraft on False River, the Plantations all around here, great deer hunting land just north of the city in St. Francisville (and duck hunting everywhere), the LSU lakes being a popular walking trail and popular for non-motorized watercraft, fourth of july on the Levee, and the casinos.g I also know a lot of guys in Baton Rouge who participate in the events at Capitol City Raceway in West Baton Rouge, which has a drag race track and an off road track (Dukes of Hazzard was filmed there).

http://www.statecapitolraceway.com/ It's not for everyone, but it does have a big following. A buddy of mine races a 2005 GTO there...most of the people there are Baton Rouge natives. I see mostly (very altered) American Iron, but there is a lot of the foreign cars there too that look like they came from that Fast/Furious movie.

Dan, my partner who works for the LSU Health Care Services Division, said that you have to change the name the Vista Surgical Center. LSU bought that and is now part of EKL. He said you could label it as "LSU Health System Surgical Facility". LOL....... OH!!!! you did a fantastic job on the page. We both just checked it out, you did a good job showing off BR. You made us proud. :shades:

Thanks guys fro the great compliments. Fixing up the page was a no brainer, though. After seeing other cities pages, I could see that ours was lagging behind. But I can't take all the credit, Richy provided pictures and Cajun & others provided me with info :).

I did a little editing to the airport artcile, mainly adding pictures.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baton_Rouge_M...politan_Airport

I also did a little tweeting to the "Transportation" section on the "Baton Rouge" article.

I like the idea of adding "Music" Cajun, but I don't think we have a big enough scene to make a new section, so I'll try to incorporate as much if it as possible into other sections.

Okay all. The next section is "Economy" so tell whay ya'll think. I know we have a port, a refinery, government employment and emerging medical and filming industries, but how can I put that it a paragraph?

Ports:

Baton Rouge is the farthest inland port that can process deep ocean tankers and cargo carriers. Baton Rouge is where those ships transfer their load (grain, crude, cars, containers) onto rail and pipeline to travel either east-west or onto a barge to move good north-south. Deep draft vessels cannot pass the old Huey Long Bridge because it is too low, and the river gets shallow near Port Hudson.

Petrochemical: The refinery is easy: Exxon is 2nd largest in the country and among the top 10 in the world. It has rail, highway, pipeline, and deep water access.

Dow Chemical (formerly Union Carbide) has a large plant in Ibberville Parish near Plaquimine. They make stuff there. NanYa Plastics has a huge facility in North Baton Rouge that makes PVC and CPVC pipes.

Shaw Construction, Turner, and Harmony all got started by working construction projects at these plants.

Government- Just barely the largest employer in Baton Rouge with all branches of the state government now located downtown.

Medical: The research hospitals of OLOL and EKL (to be replaced soon with a new facility) as well as an emerging medical corridor at Essen Lane/Summa/Bluebonnet that may end up being Louisiana's verison of the Texas Medical Center.

Film: Note the new film studios and a couple of the proposed studios in town, as well as the increased business because of state and local tax credits.

Hey guys. The rules Nazi is swepping through the BR page threatening to delete pretty much all of the pictures because of the copyright. So if ya'll have any pictures of these that I could use on there I would greatly appreciate it:

  • a building/buildings in a historic neighborhood
  • any festivals, parades, etc...
  • the refinery/ies
  • the Celtic Media Centre

Copyright?? What does this mean?? You gave credit to the person that took the pic, right? Shouldn't that be enough??

Please tell me he's not talking about sotheastbr fantastic skyline pic?? That jerk insisted on keeping the old downtown dinosaur pic for the longest. It needed to be changed!

Can you mention the Red Stick Animation Festival; not many of it's kind in the U.S. BR has an emerging video-game industry.

I got a lot of pictures off of Flickr, but I put the author's name under the description and someone deleted it because they said it was copyrighted. They also tried to delete your(Richy's) RiverCentre picture and Southeast's skyline picture and did delete almost all the pictures I put up there. Sorry Richy and Southeast, but I had to say I was the author to keep it on there.

I mentioned the Red Stick Festival, it's under "Events".

I'll put the video gaming under "Economy".

Who is this person going around on Wikipedia being a nazi about everything? Are they doing this because they dont like BR, or do they do it to every topic? They must live a pretty boring life to spend all their time on Wikipedia searching this stuff out and trying to get it deleted..... :whistling:
