Rell nominates new head of DOT

and its a mass transit guy, not a highway guy. thats good news if you ask me.

Joseph F. Marie, a public-transportation executive from Arizona, was nominated today by Gov. M. Jodi Rell as her choice to become the new commissioner of transportation.

Marie is director of operations and maintenance for METRO, the regional public transit system in Phoenix. He has executive experience with two Fortune 500 companies and public agencies in Arizona, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania.

the organization he ran?

I'm not going to comment on most of this since I've talked myself to death on most of these issues already. What I will comment on is the addition of a direct link to the casinos. I always thought that was a huge oversight by both the State and the Tribal Nations. Having a shuttle or direct link from Bradley would be in everyones best intest.

This would need to follow Rt 2 out of Hartford.

Using Bills idea a multimodal transport center at the Rent or MCC then an entire new rail line would need to be built along Rt 2 to the Casinos. I am not so sure the Casinos would pay for this. it seems like it would be extremely expensive to build this much track. I agree It would add a huge ridership, but the public tends to bank at such things.

MadVlad:

a few years ago, The P&W RR and the Pequots wanted to buy it to rebuild the line for PASSENGER SERVICE and for Freight (both CSO and PWRR would use it). The Pequots would love to have Colorado Railcar build some fancy units (Think FANCY RDC units) and they would rebuild the track (and double track from Willimantic to Norwich).
