Does anyone know if there is any effort to quantify downtown? Say, document commuting patters, populations, trends, etc. I know there has been market analysis, but I'm thinking about a mash up of data sets and maps. Something like this should be available freely on a single website. Could a free source of data help entrepreneurs, small business and community activists break into the downtown market?

What do you all think? How can this become reality?
