Boat racing coming back to Hartford

The article says that this is now being run by Riverfront Recapture and the Greater Hartford Convention & Visitors Bureau now.

It also said that they plan on making this an anual event if its successful. The race league apparently would like that too, so this could be a nice addition to what hartford has to offer.

Hartford and East Hartford have a chance to host one of the largest riverfront events of the year. Riverfront Recapture said the series can draw up to 25,000 fans each day in good weather.

The visitors bureau will pay the cost of security, event setup and other services for the races. Riverfront Recapture will oversee the production of the event, which Joe Marfuggi, president and CEO of the riverfront organization, estimated would cost the two organizations $25,000.

It would be great if this event brought that many people downtown every year. No mention of the costs that the convention bureau will shoulder, but it seems like a pretty "cheap" event to host.

I have a good friend that is REALLY excited by this. He was really pissed when the race didn't return last year. If one of those weekend days is nice, maybe I'll wrangle the wife and kid and go hang out at the Riverfront...

the convention people dont like the title sponsor. I am wondering if there can be a new sponsor found in short order. 100k is not a lot of money to bring an event and 15000 fans downtown. you would think that 15000 people would easily make that up and then some in business over the two days between hotels, food and alcohol consumption. not to mention Cabellas would get a lot of business

Wow! Good point. I guess the NFL is not family oriented either. Seriously, this country needs to grow up about the human body.

Yeah I think it funny that (huge generalization coming) the people banning the event are people who would not come anyway. The people that are being "protected" would not come anyway. The people that do come would be dissapointed if there was not at least one pin up girl. Imagine going to any motorsport and not seeing a girl or girls that look like they came right from your mechanics calander.

Hell when I went to the Brazil soccer match at Gillette a few weeks ago there were strippers handing out coupons for their Brazilian strip club.

I took it as part of the atmosphere. besides the fans might have been more provocatively dressed.

I notice on their front page that the sept 19-20 race and the Oct 24-25 race do not have locations yet.

I would love to see Hartford get an event like this and keep it as an anual thing. this is exactly the kind of thing this city needs.
