The new $700 million property is a 2 million-square-foot complex with convention space, celebrity-chef-owned restaurants, a 4,000-seat theater and a 30-story hotel tower complete with a Las Vegas-style pool surrounded by cabanas.

The new resort casino, which is a partnership with commercial gambling giant MGM Mirage, is being marketed as a more high-end destination, seeking to draw people from New York City and substitute for trips to Las Vegas, casino officials have said.

Mohegan Sun will open its "Casino of the Wind" this fall, which includes more slot machines and table games, the return of poker and a Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville Restaurant. It is the latest phase of a $925 million expansion set to finish in 2010 with the opening of a 39-story hotel tower.

I know none of this is new, but it is still very significant development happening in the nutmeg state
