Wind Creek Casino (17-story tower)

Southron

Recommended Posts

The 17-story Wind Creek Casino and Resort, under construction at the intersection of I-65 and Alabama 21 in Atmore, is part of a $260 million development that will include a hotel and bingo casino in the new tower, and eventually a lake and golf course. Poarch Creek officials expect the casino to open in December and the hotel in February or March of 2009. The tribe wants to bring in big-name entertainers as draws for the casino.

The city of Atmore announced its own nearby development, Rivercane, with economic, industrial and recreational park development on 643 acres. Atmore officials expect to attract five hotels, restaurants and eventually retail shops to Rivercane.

According to a recent Press-Register article, the casino is expected to be complete by January and the 16-floor hotel by February. The exterior of the building features stone and copper finishes with Indian motifs.

Phase II of the project will include replacing the existing casino with a 5-acre lake and pool by next summer. A golf course will be built later. If the casino development is as profitable as the Poarch Creeks hope, the tribe plans to double the casino area and build two more towers.
