Village of Imagine is across the street on Universal. This is on their property.

I wish I had a site plan of what they're proposing. Because, between the Hilton going up, The Peabody expansion, Rosen's plan, the "other" hotel proposal that hasn't been announced yet but is already booking rooms, Pointe Orlando's renovation, and THIS, Orlando stands to really boost it's clout even more. We're already No.2 behind Vegas and ahead of Chicago. But the stakes are high and you need to keep moving to be competative... exciting.

Imagine if the OCCC was in downtown Orlando... this whole complex would take up the land from the Fed. Cthse all the way to and perhaps past Westmoreland and towards OBT.

Beautiful concept & all, but is it really a good idea to drain & fill a water retention pond, especially one that size in order to put more concrete over it?

I'd love to see it happen, but I would hope that his plans include providing land for another retetion pond equal in size to the one they'd be filling in.

Actually, since the drainage will be used up, maybe he can change his plans to include canals and small water taxis. I doubt Vegas has that at their convention center, either. Or... the Orange County commissioners can just ignore the deficiency and just think about the budget shortfall this year and look at the $40MM they'll get from the purchase and let it slide. Water can just flow around the OCCC when it rains and then The Peabody ducks will have more water for splashing around with the conventioneers and tourists.

What else has Marc Watson done in the past as a developer (other than try to move the Magic in that direction)?

Am I missing something? Though I'd like to see this happen, as much as anything new... but it just doesnt seem all that interesting. Just a few more shops and restaurants? So, another Pointe Orlando with hotel rooms? Possibly with high end retail like that found in Vegas? I suppose its proximity to the convention ctr helps, but for 1 billion dollars it certainly isnt fascinating. Hopefully more info will follow with a stronger explanation...

perhaps an indoor skiing lodge or some glitzy shows would go in great there ;)

we need to start offering distinct things that other places dont

I personally think the wheel we are getting puts us on the right track, lets see what they can do with this project.....

Vegas is Vegas. It's entertaining just to be inside a casino sitting at a slot machine for most; there's energy; etc... Vegas will always be exciting because of that and the lore that made it what it is today. Vegas has been a haven for way longer than Orlando has. Casino $$$ helps with the infrastructure and with getting plane seats filled and hotel rooms booked.

Put in perspective, Orlando has none of that and is still No.2 in conventions, having supplanted Chicago, the convention juggernaut of the world 2-3 years ago. and is No.1 in tourism to boot.

OCCC has way more near it than McCormick does in Chicago. Believe it or not, the LV Hilton is the closest hotel to the LVCC, and it's not like there are that many rooms within walking distance-- check Googlemap and you'll see what I mean. And, the OCCC has better architecture.

Orange County really needs to slam dunk this thing once and for all. The convention area hotel and activity-wise has been akin to a skeleton crew at best up until now since 9/11... and we're still No.2 amazingly enough. Hilton and Peabody will definitely change that. Pointe Orlando's reno will as well. But they need a skywalk extention to the new Peabody expansion which also connects to the N/S somehow. I think Rosen planned for a skywalk to the Rosen Plaza and his new complex there...
