Well yeah, if you stop renewing leases, of course you're going to lose money. While I see jen's point in the situation being a bit nerve wracking, it's simply not possible to make any kind of case for tearing the arcade down. There's nothing structurally deficient whatsoever about it. They wouldn't dare unless they were willing to get involved in a balls to the wall, large scale class action lawsuit, similar to that of Grand Central Station in the 1960s.

I don't think you take into account the level of apathy that there is. People on this board may care and PPS may care but without public interest then nothing is going to happen to prevent it from being torn down. Of course that statement is premature. Does anyone here care enough to start a group to "Save the Arcade" and bring it back to it's retail heyday? Unless a group is willing to raise public awareness then this building will either be turned into something it's not suited for such as an office building or it will be razed. Just look across the street from the Hilton at the vast parking available in two lots. Two other buildings that we thought the public would want to keep around.

Sorry about being skeptical but the development history downtown, especially with local developers, leads me to believe that things are not going to turn out quite the way they are portrayed. If that weren't the case there would be a huge building next to the Arcade going up right now. The Fruit and Produce warehouse would be being rehabed.

This should be the center of all tourist activities in downtown. This should be a smalller version of Fanual Hall with take out food vendors on the first floor and shops on the second floor. But it should also have entertainment every day at noon and be the meeting place for any walking tour or bus tour of the city.

The Waterfire headquarters should be here. And a vistitors center which shows a movie about attractions and welcomes visitors.

You're right Jen except for no one coming. Many attended.

Regardless, it should not cease being a mall. To think that it may very well be "gutted" hoping to attract a single tenant is just wrong.

There are officials very upset about this. Let's hope the efforts being made on all levels can change the Granoff's plan.
