I'm not sure if anybody else has noticed, but Charlotte and the surrounding area are now in Google Streetview. Also included in the update is Greensboro/Winston-Salem, Greenville SC, and Columbia. I'm going to look through and try to find some funny/weird/interesting views.

Whoohoo! Found my truck!

There is a moving truck on my street and I think that house moved in about a month ago so that would be my guess on how old these pictures are.

I was going to say it was a weekday afternoon... Due to the lack of cars in my work's parking lot, I'd say it was after 5pm and due to the number of cars on the street downtown combined with the fact that the stock ticker is running, I'd say it was a weekday. However, another oddity is that as you're traveling South on College Street, once you cross over Stonewall Street, it turns to night.

Indeed, not only are the shots from all times of day, they occur at different times of the year. At my apartment its in the middle of winter, but its full-on spring in other areas.

I found "License to Wed" playing at Park Road shopping center which came out on July 3, 2007. Also playing that day was "1408" and "Die Hard" which both came out and the end of June last year. A digital clock and temperature sign on Monroe Road reads 35c=95 degrees at 6:52pm and another one reads 73 degrees at 8:12am on Village Lake Drive. Based on my yard, it looked like a hot summer day in mid July.

ps. I love street view.

Trade Street is interesting. If you travel up Trade street from the light rail station towards Tryon you can go back in time through the seasons. Matching up with the 210 trade webcam I am estimating...

1. The block from light rail station to just before Trade and College Street to be roughly March 1st, 2008.

2. If you stand right in the middle of Trade and College, it's roughly November 1st 2007

3 Traveling up Trade Street from College to Tryon, It's almost Christmas Check out the decorations on the lamp posts and you can make out the big Christmas tree on Trade and Tryon. It looks like the first week in December, 2007 from the webcam. Clues are the At&t sign on EpiCentre.

4 Trade and Tryon Intersection is back to Spring or Summer. No more decorations, and people are dressed for spring/summer.

5. Trade Street to Church Street it's Christmas again

6. Trade Street/Church intersection it's winter, (no leaves on trees)

7. Trade Street to Poplar it's fall.

Take the trip it's pretty cool.

OKAY i found the first funny thing in StreetView Charlotte!!! Ride up Randolph Rd. northbound from Sharon Amity (near Cotswold Mall). Streetview takes a little detour thru chick-fil-a's drive thru lane! ha ha...

link here.

haha, and right around the corner at Randolph the car went to the Shell station and marked it as part of randolph road. Unfortunately no gas price to document there.

The new front entrance of UNC Charlotte's campus is well under construction but the columns aren't up which at least means it is from this past winter.

You can tell the shots at UNCC were from winter just driving through and looking at the trees all naked.

If you drive down 2nd St. you can watch a LYNX train pass by...

Parts of Charlotte are in HD Streetview now:

High resolution street view - and you can tell that the photography is fairly recent based on the construction progress on the Duke Energy Building:

I spotted this on June 25th of last year, so that seems to be about the same age as the new HD images:

Charlotte just got a hi-res imagery update on Google Earth. The new imagery is from February of last year, but we get to see all of the new South End development, runway construction, 277 interchange construction, new Ikea, etc...

MINOR note: A little later than Feb in my neighborhood (south of Ballantyne). Flowers are on the trees (including the Bradford Pears), and that doesn't happen until March.

Same imagery is in Google Maps.

Google StreetView just added historical pictures.  So you can StreetView around uptown and go back in time (to 2007) to see how things have changed.

I wish they did 2000 in SouthEnd. Now that'd be a transformation!
