There was also a noticeable lack of alerts from the '04 elections until months before the '06 elections. The whole thing is nothing more than a propaganda tool to scare the public into supporting the GOP on election day, and I expect we'll start seeing regular alerts again about late July-early August.

It's because the alert level is probably green right now. It's only newsworthy if yellow or above. We can't be reporting that there are no significant terror threats that we're aware of and get Americans all comfortable now, can we? Plus that wouldn't help the GOP candidate's cause, Mr. National Security himself.

It's an useless governmental agency that is nothing more than a glamourized propaganda tool at best. It is interesting to learn that INS was essentially disbanded and placed under this department of uselessness. However, the irony of it is that immigration and nationalization has seemed to become more of a problem now than pre-Homeland Security.

I think the alert level thing is all a propoganda tool. If they want to keep the country safe, quit using the alert levels and just issue warnings when people should know. Otherwise, just focus on busting up sleeper cells, arresting individuals that need to be and investigating potential threats.
