fotoman311 50 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 For next Wednesday's PedalGR ride, I want to visit 3 or 4 of the parking ramps downtown or near downtown with the best views. I know there are a few on here who have frequented many of the ramps. Which ones have the best views? Are they busy after working hours (6:30-8:00pm). Does BOTM traffic fill up some of the ramps? Are the ramps owned by the city and GRCC considered public property? I've never seen any signs banning bicycles, but I'm slightly worried some cocky or overly concerned parking ramp attendant is going to try and tell my group that we can't go into the ramp because we're not cars. I will be visiting some of them tomorrow and may talk to some of the attendants.

Allison Slater 328 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 I've seen signs on the Pearl Street ramp saying "Motor Vehicles Only" but never got yelled at. But, I was only one bike, not a squad.
GRDadof3 3962 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 GRCC ramp on Bostwick has some great views in all directions. The Monroe Avenue ramp (across from TGIF) has great views looking toward Rosa Parks Circle. Ottawa/Fulton ramp is OK. The Monroe Center ramp (entrance on Ionia) is pretty good, with cool views looking toward Heartside/Ionia. Pearl/Ionia ramp is pretty blah. Veloise 46 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 Run 'em down the lovely hill inside the new cancer center parking deck (Coit just north of Michigan). From there you can get a great view of the freeway. Same vista at the ramp across the street.
Eridony 1 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 Well it's hard for me to say which is best, I think my favorite is probably the new Heartside structure, but maybe these pictures will help you decide. From the JW Ramp (not sure if this is public of private) The ramp behind Monroe Center: The GRCC Ramp on Fountain Street: The GRCC Ramp on Lyon Street: The Heartside Ramp: The other ramps I've been on top of are private.
