Speaking of valets, I few weeks ago I went to DJT's on Atwells. They have their own lot in back of the building for customers. That night there was a valet. I asked him if I could park in the lot if I was going to eat at the restaurant. He said it was valet only that night.

I had to tip a guy to drive my car 30 feet. Wow.

Clever business model. I could have driven away and parked for free, but then I'd feel like a jerk walking back past the guy 'cause I was too cheap to give him $2.

how come you like laws when they suit you? Like against prostitution and the like in your neighborhood, but in someone else's neighborhood it is somehow an affront to freedom? What is up with that?

I know this concept breaks your libertarian heart, but we do not live under libertarian rule, we have laws and regulations.

Which is a big part of the reason RI is the only New England state that is officially in recession.

I haven't Googled it or nothing, but I'm pretty sure, off the top of my head mind you, that the other 5 New England states also have laws and regulations. I got a speeding ticket in Mass. once*.

Such a shame. I certainly understand "outrage fatigue" but how is this still happening? Why hasn't there been any legislation proposed by the city council to tax parking lots? The city is in a financial bind--let's get some money out of these things.

Isn't there at least a state sales tax on parking? In New York all the lots have weird prices ending in odd cents, because the tax rounds it up to whole dollars (and the pre-tax rate looks better than the whole dollar amounts with tax).
