thank your short sighted (or is it corrupt) politicians for letting this happen. of course, we have seen geno and jim embrace the tribal scam for years (no downtown restaurant for geno and byebye jim). for slot money, an agreement (no doubt. ask bridgeport and hartford) to keep private enterprise casinos out of ct, and a kick between the legs to hartford in particular is such a sweet deal for the pretend native americans and the pockets of our politicians. maybe those people in mass and ri are smart not to bother with a big arena.

You can thank Lowell Weicker for killing the casino deal Steve Wynn offered Hartford in the early 1990's when Connecticut lawmakers saw the kind of revenues Foxwoods was doing and actually wanted to build casinos in Hartford. All this could be happening downtown.

Tonight

Neil Diamond playing to a sold out XL Center in Hartford

Kanye West playing to a sold out Mohican Sun Arena

I dont "love" either, enjoy a little of both from time to time, and would rather have all the rich folks that follow Neil Diamond eating at dish rather than the younger crown that would have worked all summer to see Kanye. (yes this is an exaduration for effect since there are obviously young and old people going to both) but the young folks are eating at friendlies or whatever, while Neils fans are filling TK, Agave, and Dish as we speak.

Hartford resturant week and a concert at the same time... very nice.

Last I seen on the issue: http://www.courant.com/sports/basketball/s...0,1104087.story

And this was nearly two months ago.

In summary: Mohegan Sun is interested in making a bid for when the Big East's contract with HCC ends. They claim their arena is better sized for the tournament.

they want it for themselves because they are capitalists. and if they get it they probably would get more people because after awhile their captured audience gets tired of pressing buttons and playing cards. when they have to turn away gamblers from the games because they can't fit any more of them in their arena, will they send the tournament back to hartford because they are too small? their reason is ludicrous, although inventive. wow, hartford is apparently too big for the women's big east tournament, too small for the nfl, nhl, etc. what is the right size sporting event for hartford?
