An Architectural Walk Through of Uptown

On Friday, Charlotte was my last stop on my "Exploration of the South" trip that spanned for almost two weeks. On my way back from Boca Raton/Miami, I parked in the park and ride lot at 485 and rode the train into Uptown. This is my first time riding the new light rail system that I've been constantly reading about on here. To say the least, I was thoroughly impressed! Despite the monetary troubles and leadership, there was a lot of thought put into this line. In my opinion, each station is timeless and shows the class this great city has (despite the orange detailing on the retaining walls and bridges). What really stood out to me was how diversified each train ride was. Everywhere I looked were people from all racial, ethnic, and social classes. Like most of my fellow passengers, I got off at the CTC/Arena station and was blown away by the construction projects that surrounded me. Despite some unruly skateboarders (who got a piece of my mind) that were yelling obscenities at people leaving work and myself, it was a very pleasurable ride. I was very surprised to see lines of workers leaving BOA HQ and Wachovia HQ waiting for the CATS buses. If it's one thing I wish for my own city, it is the stereotype that people believe that public transportation is only for low-income citizens was gone.

On this walk through, I focused more on the architectural side of Charlotte than the street life (in a past photo tour of mine). Hope you enjoy!

I know you were probably pressed for time, but it would have been nice to see some shots away from the Tryon/College corridors, where the architecture can be just as, if not more, interesting. Thanks for sharing!
