Belle Meade Plaza... What's next?

So, the Belle Meade Cafeteria and furniture store moved out a year or so ago. Now Crystal Gayle's gift store is closing up. The area is not at all hurting for money, and with the growth of Hill Center Belle Meade and the Belle Meade Town Center project in completion, what is the future for these parcels at the old Belle Meade Plaza?

I work across from the plaza, and when the Cafeteria and antique mall left I got kinda down on the place. But, Wachovia just moved in and it's picked up two restaurants and a jewelry repair shop. The Office Depot and CVS leases are good long ones, and the Hallmark is expanding into space that OD gave up. OD looked around but couldn't find a better location.

There is over 10,000 s.f. for lease in the basement that I think used to be Kunz's Variety. That would be a neat night club or a Tuesday Morning. I bet rent would be cheap.

Cheeseburger Charley's and a mexican restaurant moved in recently..

The place is definitely dated, and needs fixing up.. but still seems to do fairly well. Kroger is always busy, and it seems like people are always walking around the rest of the plaza. I guess as long as people are coming there, it will probably stay the same....

UGH, please tear it down. it's awful. as nearby resident I shop at the kroger as it's the only grocery nearby, however it will be interesting to see, once the new hill deverlopment is open with it's publix, (which I will switch from kroger), and the harris teeter down the road, what this does to the perception of the BMP once all the new stuff is nipping at it's toes, I suspect the May's will go status quo and leave it be, though even with the new additions, and save for the kroger, starbucks and office depot/cvs, the place seems pretty quiet with the empty storefronts for the old cafeteria and antique place.

Count me as another who will switch to Publix when it opens. That Kroger has a very poor selection. The small size and Kroger's insistence on overloading on its own in-house products makes for a frustrating shopping experience.

Now, if we could just get a spanking new grocery store where the closed HG Hill's sits in Nashville West, I would be a very happy guy....

Well I guess this is the answer to the question. Looks as if Belle Meade Plaza is getting a make over. This is from the Tennessean this morning.

I for one am glad to see this dated property getting a face lift. They had to make a move with all the other construction going on around them..

You may want to re-read that article. As much as I would love to see it, there was nothing in the piece referring to a facelift. Just expansion of the Hallmark store, and the hopes of new tenants which have yet to be realized. If anyplace does need a make over, though, it is the Belle Meade Plaza. I would love to see them do something creative with the downstairs area.
