Gov McPope is lukewarm on the possibility of an RNC for Charlotte in 2016:

Phoenix, Kansas City, Salt Lake City and Las Vegas are among the likely bidders for the 2016 convention.

The article cites Foxx saying that the RNC brings in about 2/3 the crowd of the DNC.

We would be much better prepared with hotels than we were last year.

Agreed we would be better prepared hotel wise with RNC since it's a 1/3 less, but also agree with Southslider suggestion of Phoenix as the one to beat for the 2016 candidacy.

While I would welcome another National Convention (of either party) I sort of feel we secured the notch in our belt and now let's look at the next thing.

Not gonna happen...besides the low likelihood of a city getting one of the conventions 2 elections in a row, the Republican strategists aren't completely stupid, and would know that placing the convention in NC would mean unnecessarily getting their hands dirty by having to acknowledge and stand behind the recent actions of our state government to some degree, which has been getting well-deserved scathing national media coverage. Coming off of the end of a Democrat president's 2nd term, they're not really going to want to talk about their own policies as much as point to failures of their opponents (what else is new right but even more so in this scenario).
