I already got the EZ Pass the free sticker it does work in Georgia and Florida as well as NC.  The transponders work in more states in VA and points north.  I drive more in the south so the sticker is fine with me and if you do head north the transponder is better for you.

The massive 3.5 million Phillip Morris plant in Concord will be demolished by the land owners as they think the site is better marketed as an empty site.  It will take a year to demo it.

for those who have not explored central Concord and its historical district and downtown here are some photos from today.

Homes are along N Union St and historical district continues south to S Union too.

the Hotel Concord is now apartments with event space on ground level.  Check out the new Cabarrus county parking garage mainly for the courthouse

the Old Courthouse is an arts center now.

and the Gibson Mill which is home to the largest antiques marketplace in the region, the Cabarrus Brewery, offices and the Car Barn where you can store cars in the huge old textile mill.  Today.  Love the clock tower.

was working out in Waxhaw Saturday.  Love this little town and how the little  downtown is so vibrant with retailers and restaurants.  Old cotton mill has the only apartments in town too.

the back side of the largest hotel in the Charlotte region outside of Meck County the 402 room Great Wolf Lodge in Concord.  Some of the waterslides can be seen from outside too.  Last remaining rooms during the NBA All Star weekend are $479 a night most sold out.

High design standards up in Huntersville.  Storage unit building that looks like a hotel which is what I thought it was and this the nicest Bojangles in the area at Bryton.  Made to look 2 story high but great design.  Today.

Charlotte ring cities especially in Cabarrus Catawba Iredell Union and Gaston counties have lots of manufacturing plants.  Here is an effort to train people in a short time for a job in manufacturing which is a lot more tech oriented now that ever.

Massive courthouse expansion on tap for Cabarrus County in downtown Concord.  New 225,000 sq ft addition and it is sorely needed believe me.  Check out the video too.

One of the most vibrant little downtowns in the region  is downtown Mooresville.  Despite having every big box store known to man in town, they still have a thriving downtown with restaurants, shops of all sorts.   Rents are affordable in downtown Mville (same in Waxhaw, Mt Holly, Gastonia, Concord, Belmont etc) so plenty of opportunity for locally based shops.  Plus the Epic Chophouse brings in the big spenders from the lake (and it is really good trust me)

about the conversion of a 164 year old hotel in downtown Salisbury into apartments in a subscriber article.  Check it for I think everyone can see the photos.  What a great project for a great downtown in our region!

Thanks for these posts. Back when I used to work for Salisbury, I used to always wonder when renovations would kick off. You gotta admire Salisbury for their preservation and love of history. It's become a huge asset to them. This is one of many pre- Civil War buildings left in existence in Salisbury. The room where Andrew Jackson studied law, BOTH the original buildings where Cheerwine was made, the train station, etc. Heck, my old barber was in a historic building on the back side of that block(current Go Burrito). Granted I realize the economics are different, but come on Charlotte. We can do better. RIP Polk. 

 

P.S. I believe once a year or more there are open house walking tours of many of the historic homes around Fulton St. I highly recommend if you like 100 year old homes.

I just recommend Salisbury or any of the small towns for day-cations around Charlotte, especially if you love history. Thanks KJ and others for all the photos you take for this thread. It's not as easy to get out when you have babies.
