Will all of these older style buildings remain or will some be torn down? Some buildings had open doors. It seems colonial in feel but I’m guessing not of that era?

The block where the Gem will be mostly kept intact from the proposals I have seen.  Some of the surface vacant lots behind will be developed.

Downtown Gastonia has a new restaurant in a 100 year old building and later this year the hotel rooms will open.  I told you this is the downtown to watch.

Too dark to get a pic unfortunately, but last night when driving through Salisbury, noticed that the block has been fenced off for the Bell Tower Park.  Looked like they've already started grading the lot but couldn't tell for sure.

Waxhaw, one block south of south Main Street. A repaint (?) of previous user.

Waxhaw, as innumerable southern towns, has rail line through the middle of town. Therefor Main street is twain. North Main Street on the north side of the rails and South Main south.

Inside I-Fly by Concord Mills.  My friends wanted to check it out.    They host group outings and corporate meetings there too.   The wind speeds inside are like a CAT 4 hurricane up to 145 mph.   These are instructors practicing.

Kannapolis's Gem Theater listed on the National Register of Historical Place.  Serving the community since 1948 the city will improve it further.

Made it up to Mooresville last week for the first time in a few years.  Downtown looks great and the Mill One project is going to be a game changer for downtown. It's a shame the old building won't be saved though.  Also grabbed some food from What-A-Burger while I was there; the fries were a little thick for my liking (next time I'll be getting the onion rings), but the What-A-Cheeseburger was on point.

Personal story: Sooo when my family and I moved up from Texas we were still getting adjusted to the area, new jobs/ schools, etc. and were all feeling a bit home sick, even months after. We had recently been scarred by the NC version of BBQ( coleslaw on the meat with no beef in sight) and were yearning for familiar food. But alas! We hear some locals speaking of a place all Texans love, Whataburger. So we load up the family and head the 45 minutes over to Mooresville. To say we were heart broken was an understatement. We arrived to the locally founded restaurant, not the Texas fast food legend. What we got was good, but it wasn't what we expected. No spicy ketchup. I think I cried on the way home. 

Either way I've since come to thoroughly enjoy the small NC bbq joints and old family restaurants. But it was funny to experience the culture shock you can find even within parts of the south. Thanks for reminding me of that memory.

This is good to hear!  I was wondering what was happening when I drove by on Thursday.  The article mentions the "kiosks" that have received a GREAT deal of ridicule on social media.

from the small but growing town of Locust in SW Stanly county part of (Quad Cities: Locust, Stanfield, Red Cross and Oakboro can substitute Big Lick if you want in the mix)   the Locust Town center where the town built a new downtown as the old one was plowed over when NC 2427 was widened.  It has apartments including affordable units, for sale SF homes, retail, offices, town hall, library, restaurants.  

and next door is the Red Bridge country club semi private golf club and a builder has started lots of homes in there.

Big weekend out at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord.  Bank of America Roval 400.  Despite yawns from Charlotte's business community this race continues to bring a lot of people into town and spending lots of money at hotels.  Even with the lower attendance of years past it is still bigger than an NFL game.  Photos from yesterday and a few race cars from uptown
