Today's CBJ - "Rock Hill's University Center development set for flurry of activity" by Colin Huguley  (Paywall / Subscriber article)

Excerpt:  "... Rock Hill's University Center development is moving on to its next phase of activity.  Over the next 15 months, University Center will finish construction on six more buildings, adding more than $85 million in investment to the project, according to master developer Skip Tuttle.  Construction broke ground in December on the 110-room Cambria Hotel and a 305-bed student-housing building.  Developers are also in the process of designing a 480-car parking deck, a 470-car deck with about 19,000 square feet of retail space, and a 142-unit apartment building for the development.  The Power Plant, which will include a brewery as well as restaurant, office and retail space, will also finish construction by the second quarter of 2021."  ... "The 305-bed student-housing building, called The Nest, is the first of two such projects planned for University Center.  It is expected to be completed by August, 2021, and ready for students to move in for the 2021-22 school year.  Construction on the project will cost $17.3 million and rent will start around $650 per month, according to Connor Bell, vice president of acquisitions for The BurnBrae Cos., which is developing The Nest.  The facility will include fitness centers, a pool, study lounges and other amenities geared toward drawing students from nearby Winthrop University."  "The Cambria Hotel has moved up its timeline and is expected to open by the end of the year, Tuttle said.  It was previously planned to open in 2021."

Need to get a drone up to that area. Might be possible to get the old Phillip Morris land/plant, NASCAR and Uptown all in one shot.

the old Phillip Morris building is mostly gone but it would be interesting to see.  Concord is on an  ancient volcanic ring of rocks.

Big news for the twin cities of Belmont and Mt Holly new hospital approved for Belmont Abbey site which is next to the town of Mt Holly.  This is the fastest growing part of Gaston County the eastern third.  The state has approved the 66 bed hospital which will attract patients from west Mecklenburg too I am sure.

Small business owners whom I know one of these business owners in the downtown Mt Holly area showcase their small businesses that are ALL shut down for in store sales right now.  However most have online sales or phone sales. Support small businesses or there won't be anything left but major chains.  Here are the faces behind the stores and businesses.
