I missed it then...  This was taken at their current location, where they are storing a vast number of concrete piping.

this is the first I have heard of this in Cornelius.  Knew OMB wanted to build a brewery there but not the residential development too.

A wonderful day for a Sunday Covid drive*, Rock Hill this time. I may have never been into the center of downtown Rock Hill before, strange as it seems.  Lots of things happening in Rock Hill. Churches play a large part in the architecture of the city. Too many to put all of them here. At the corner of Oakland and White we find

On another of the corners of that intersection:

And on a third corner of same intersection, a church that looks great in sun:  (Fourth corner is parking for Episcopals)

Right on Main Street is this former church which is now the Freedom Center with a Montessori School and likely much else. My guess is First Baptist since two to three miles out from Main Street on Dave Lyles is a new campus of First Baptist.  Note light poles and lack of wires.

U. S. Court House next to Freedom Center/Church. Rock Hill is not the county seat it is YORK city. Ionic columns here and Doric on the church.

*I suspended my courthouse visits for the holidays and then January had execrable weather. Covid may be in the past soon.

Across the street from the Freedom Center on Main is the Andrew Jackson Hotel. Now offices and the lower facade is historically correct.

A block down Main is the corner with this building which has Amélie's and doing a good business today

Fountain Park is a block away from the area with the historic buildings posted above.  Active, dancing fountains and at the far end a modern band shell.

On the Fountain Park corner is a new Comporium building. There are numerous 21st century buildings n this downtown area and all follow an historic style with brick exteriors, Georgian or neo-classical and of a piece. There must be an architectural review and it is satisfying. Charlotte can take note and learn from its southern sister. sister.

Two long blocks from Main Street is a fine antebellum house and museum, the White Home. From 1837 as a cabin but shortly thereafter enlarged and more added through time.  Same family lived here until 2005 and now a museum of local history, decorative arts, and event center. Found online as the White House but locally preferred as White Home. Closed for the entirety of 2021 for renovations.

There is much more in Rock Hill, this is but a bit. If one enters from Dave Lyle the columns from the Charlotte Masonic Temple, built in Egyptian style, will be seen at the entry to the downtown area. The innermost neighborhoods of Rock Hill have banners on the light poles with the neighborhood name such as Fountain Park, East End, and others. A fair bit of pedestrian traffic, Amélies especially. And these furry, friendly characters. Free onstreet parking.

Here some shots from today of the 10th largest city in NC Concord with its 100,000 plus population.   Lots going on downtown including renovation of historic buildings (hey Charlotte might want to try that more especially with the Hall House)  

Photos 1 2   the Vue of Concord apartments in a renovated Hotel Concord.  Ground floor retail and event center.  3.  4. retail strip mostly occupied on S Union St.  5.6. new apartments going in the historic Cabarrus Bank and Trust with ground floor offices and coworking space.   Photos 7 8 9 the new Cabarrus courthouse expansion with tower crane  Photo 10 is apartments called Loft 29 another historical reno  Photo 11 French bakery, restaurants including Thai, Cuban and American downtown   12  tower crane for courthouse expansion and 13 the new apartments rising just started (sorry one of my many masks featured too)

Really exciting seeing those parcels on W Catawba finally being redeveloped.  I worked in Planning for the Town in the late 2010's and I hated seeing that area decay.

Won't happen this Summer, but water is on its way to Union County from Lake Tillery.  48" piping just outside of Norwood along South Stanly School Road.
