Wonderful setting, great place.  Good luck to Freshman bartender Dion (nice Martini!) and the girl with Southern accent and plaited ponytail bartenderfrom Winthrop/Rock Hill/Charlotte...on their first night as Dispensary Rooftop bartenders.

Red Doe Plantation, Old River Road

Picture
Red Doe Plantation mansion built 1846 for Evander F. Gregg (1818-1874), a South Carolina planter in what was then the Marion District and now Florence County.
Picture
Red Doe Old Slave Quarter in back of the Mansion.
Picture
Red Doe's high masonry basement and porch form were indigenous to northeastern South Carolina making it a fine example of a raised Carolina cottage.

I wish someone could find a use for that house. It got a new roof and paint job not that long ago, yet it is looking bad again.

FMU was offered ownership once and declined. It seems like it could be an event venue or an additional 'cottage' for the University's visitors.

SUMMONINGS

In the woods out there,
Way out there
In the place where you won’t go,
That’s where you’ll find her
Dancing in a heated frenzy
Sweating a sweet scent;
Picture

She strips down
As steam rises up off her body;
She raises her hands to the red moon
And she calls out his name,
Beckoning again and again
Until finally he comes
Picture

Picture

Picture

And stands before her,
Tall and mighty
The face of the beast;
His eyes are sharp and narrow, red;
He has the horns of a ram,
Curving backwards from his head;
He steps out of the myst
To fulfill her rapture
Her final capture.

NORTH FLORENCE

North Florence's predominately African-American residential neighborhood lies just northeast of North Dargan Street's historic African-American 200-300 business district in downtown Florence.
