Store Closings

With the economy in its current bleak state, I've noticed some stores across the area closing recently. If you spot one, post it here.

Linens N Things at Greenridge is closing (as already discussed, IIRC) - in fact, the whole chain is closing. Harold's, who has been in the area for quite a while (Greenville Mall, then Greenridge) was advertising store closings as well this morning. As much as I hope not, I'm seeing this as just the beginning, especially for the higher-end stores.

I am thinking we will lose one of our Circuit City's before long....given the close proximity between the two locations and the chain's financial shape. I am torn, however, between which one would close; the one at Haywood (which I prefer) is in a great location at the mall, while the other one is on Woodruff Rd with the other stores.

Didn't know about the other stores. We'll probably be seeing some empty storefronts at Haywood before long.

Here is an artcile about some of the retailers who might not make it to 2009.

Some names on the list, Circuit City, Pier One, Dillards, World Market, Chico's and Talbots, J. Jill and WIlliams Sonomoa.

I would hate to see World Market go belly up, I really like that store.

I like World Market too....but things don't look that great for them. I would hate to see them leave too.

Has Steve and Barrys closed yet? What about Linens? Haven't been around LNT since Sat (they were still open, looked like they were just starting to mark down) and haven't been around Steve and Barry's in a while. Noticed that LNT in Spartanburg has already closed.

I know S&B/Greenville was not on the original list....but it is closing now. They have a banner out now...not sure how far into the process they are.

Noticed the other day that Garner's Market and Cafe was closed but the signs remain up. When did they close??
