Cool venues in the city for a series of events

Can anyone suggest some cool venues in the city for special events (primarily speaker type events)? They can't be what are thought of as traditional conference spaces, but places that are more edgy. They could even be vacant industrial spaces that are currently for lease, as long as they have working electricity and heat (and are relatively clean). Capacity for possibly 200 - 300 people seated with reception area.

I saw a concert at the Ladies Literary Club--pretty cool space.

FSC. Great acoustics, not edgy in design but in thought, word, and deed. We seem to pick up all the pushed-away speakers (like the gay Wayne State prof who was supposed to speak at Aquinas).

Wealthy Street theater is a cool space and is set up for this kind of thing (can arrange catering, have audio-visual gear, etc). And they are easily on the right side of the "for the good of the community" mindset...
