Last weekend, the Richmond Folk Festival brought 200,000 people to the riverfront along Tredegar Street.

This Friday, October 21st beginning around 7PM the IN LIGHT EXPOSITION will attract thousands to the same area.

Last year, it was held in Shockoe Slip.

The marque is partially installed at the Empire Theater. Its looking really great, and bright. really bright! Lots of white neon. It really brightens up Broad Street.

Brent, is the new marquee attached (as in recent years) to the Little Theatre, or is it on the actual Empire? I hope the Empire is getting its old columns back on the facade.

How about a few cell phone pix (or better) of progress at the site? :good: .

Here's today's follow-up story about Neil and Sara Bell November's $2 million gift to Theatre IV/Barksdale flor renovation work at The Empire Theatre.

The related box has photographs from the 1960's or early '70's when the Empire was reopened (not by Theatre IV but another group) for live theatre. I believe the name of the acting group was The American Revels Company.

This is the best photo of a rendering I can find of how the Empire Theatre IV complex will appear after renovation.

While its official name THE SARA BELLE AND NEIL NOVEMBER THEATRE will appear on the building's exterior, it will be called simply The November Theatre.

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts continues its blockbuster roster of major exhibits with the opening this Saturday, November 19th of MUMMY: SECRETS OF THE TOMB.

The exhibit culled from the collection at The British Museum in London will remain in Richmond until March 11th, 2012 after which it will move to Australia. Whether or not it will return to the United States is not yet known. Meanwhile, Richmond is its only scheduled site in America.

I've been looking for a review by the dance critic at the Times Dispatch, but if there has been one it is well hidden

The Richmond Ballet is performing a work titled LIEBESLIEDER WALZER in their Studio Theatre at 5th and Canal Streets. While the theatre seats only 250, the stage is really quite large..

I ran across this one from RVANews.

Barksdale presents MY FAIR LADY at The Empire Theatre tonight, Friday November 25th. It will run until January 8th.

The Empire, which is seven blocks west of Richmond Center Stage on West Broad Street, was recently endowed $2 million by Sara Belle and Neil November. The theatre will be renamed in their honor.

While the largest collection of Ancient Egyptian objects is on permanent display at The Smithonian's Natural Museum of History in Washington, Richmond has the distinction of being the only city in America to display MUMMY: Secrets of The Tomb on loan from The British Museum in London.

Here is a video of Virginia Museum Director Alex Nyerges discussing the exhibition at VMFA which opened November 19th and will continue until March 11, 2012:

The works of Dale Chihuly, who revolutionized the Study Glass Movement and raised it from the realm of craft to fine art, will be on display at VMFA beginning October 20th, 2012 through February 10th 2013 in the soaring McGlothin wing of the museum.

I understand some of Chihuly's work also will be in the sculpture garden.

I'm glad. I've always loved the sculpture garden. I'm glad they will utilize it more. The fact that it rises over the parking deck, the rushing water, and fountains at top, and of course, all the big sculptures dotting the landscape while overlooking the new McGlothin wing of the VMFA. I understand that the Robins Sculpture Garden is also one of the largest in the country...

The Richmond Times Dispatch editorial staff posted an unsigned letter to the editor comment on a recent story in The New York Times which devoted a few paragraphs to The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts:

http://www2.timesdispatch.com/news/letters-to-the-editor/2012/mar/20/tdopin01-masterpieces-ar-1777852/

The lady in the foreground of the photo is Pam Reynolds who, shall we say, has a rather bizarre fashion sense and is a devotee and strong supporter of VMFA. :)
