A $50-million dollar mixed-use community to be built in Oxmoor Valley off of Lakeshore Drive. It is to be called Glennbrook at Oxmoor Valley and is expected to be completed by around 2009. It will include about 300-units of which approximately 100 or so will be low-income. This is the third such Hope VI project in the Birmingham region.

"...construction is expected to begin on the Glenbrook at Oxmoor mixed-income development by June, its developer said. Housing commissioners on Monday voted to loan the project $7.4 million for Phase I of the 300-unit development...Glenbrook is scheduled to be built on 26 acres off Sydney Drive and Lakeshore Parkway. Pennrose Properties of Pennsylvania and Formation Methods LLC of Alabama are the developers...Developers said the Oxmoor area is growing. The Birmingham city school system plans to build a K-8 school in Oxmoor Valley. MAX buses are now servicing the area, said Herschel Hamilton of Formation."

I was waiting on this news...this may be the start of something GREAT in that area, and for the city being able to bring new residents to a new part of town. Hopefully the school will be able to compete with some of the best in the area. Now the question would be, after 8th grade, will they still be able to attend Vestavia High?
