Little Mexico, whats the story?

When it burned, there was talk from the owners of rebuilding.

Anyone have any news, rumors, anything?

It takes a while to get things done when insurance companies are invovled and financing is as bad as it is right now. I'm sure they're still in the process of working on it, it just won't happen in 3 days like a lot of people would like.

I know they said they were going to rebuild. It's just a matter of when.

According to the staff at Maggie's, a lot of the delay has to do with the fact that (what's remaining of) the building is historic/protected. They said that for the purposes of rebuilding quickly, "It would have been better if the whole building burned up."

This morning Chris Knape posted a rendering of the new Little Mexico on his blog. A bit of news: "The new restaurant also is expected to have dining on the second floor along with a rooftop deck."

Drove by yesterday, the foundation is poured and there's activty on-site. They can't reopen soon enough, I have yet to have any Mexican food in GR that compares.
