Actually I was reading a forum where they were talking about the reality that there's enough money around for the rich to stay rich while robots to much of the hard labor and citizens receive a form of basic income. It was not a form of communism though and was very interesting to read about coming from a conservative Louisiana population.

It's exactly what has been happening the Mississippi Delta with mechanized agriculture in the 20th century.

It will just occur in both blue and white collar jobs that were once though to be safe.

Hope Electric Depot will be a smash hit on the West edge of Mid City :shades:

IS THE ELECTRIC DEPOT A MODEL FOR REDEVELOPMENT?

The Electric Depot development between downtown and Mid City represents a model for blight elimination, affordable housing and the type of mixed-use “destination” project that can transform the city, the people behind the project said today.

Electric Depot work to begin next week

SAM KARLIN | @samkarlin
NOVEMBER 28, 2017

Construction will begin next week on Electric Depot, culminating several years of planning for the $20 million redevelopment project at the former Entergy site in Mid City.

Work on phase one of the project should be completed by December 2018, says Dyke Nelson, who is developing the project alongside the East Baton Rouge Redevelopment Authority.

That phase will have four buildings on Government Street and a three-story entertainment center with a bowling alley, restaurant, bar and private event space. Other tenants are expected to include a fitness center with healthy food offerings, brewpub, photography studio and coffee concept. Specific tenants will be announced next month, Nelson says.

One of the first four buildings at the site will have 16 one-bedroom apartments and a portion that will be income-restricted “workforce housing.”

Mentioned here numerous times....Looks like  this Government Street Road-diet is really going to happen. Supposed to start Jan 8th...they will leave the Street 4 lanes near BRCC from North Foster Dr. to Jefferson Hwy.  This proposal has drawn some fire w traffic concerns...cars do travel too fast down this major thoroughfare thru Mid City.

North Blvd with the R.R. Overpass could be a nice alternative route

Road Diets have proven to be successful under circumstances like those presented in mid city.    I'm glad they are trying it, and I'm even more pleased that its coming with brand new pavement.

Cannatella Grocery coming to Mid City

CAITIE BURKES
August 9, 2018

A popular Acadiana specialty grocery store is coming to Baton Rouge as its owners plan to open on Government Street next to Rocca Pizzeria.

Cannatella Grocery, co-owned by brothers Grant and Brian Cannatella and their wives, has been around since 1923, when their Italian immigrant great-grandfather opened the original meat market, hardware store and lumber yard in Melville, a small town in St. Landry Parish.

Known for its muffuletta, the grocery store has attracted visitors from throughout Acadiana over the years. The Baton Rouge location will not have an attached hardware store or lumber yard, however.
