Lee County, AL Growth

Lee County is growing... With the opening of the JR Allen Bypass between central Muscogee County in Georgia and the northeast corner of Russell, near the southeast corner of Lee, Lee County's growth took off. Eventually, the area incorporated into the town of Smiths. Still much growth occurs outside the incorporated towns of Opelika, Auburn and Smiths Station. It's difficult to know exactly where, since the County building permit office doesn't provide zip code or other area data, but unincorporated Lee is growing and evolving. This thread is to keep track of goings-on outside the municipalities in Lee County.

Lee County has instituted a planning commission. Now, the county is exploring developing a master plan. According to the flyer (attached) - "If you care about the future of Lee County-the natural environment, growth and development, transportation, parks and recreation, housing, and other aspects of our quality of life-you must be part of LEAVE YOUR MARK! Small group discussions will allow your ideas to be heard. Your ideas will help guide the creation of the FIRST master plan for our county. The plan will have a strong focus on the unincorporated portions of the county." There are several town hall style meetings to be held around the County, including one at Smiths Station HS.

The County is also seeking facilitator help. E-mail the County to offer your service and sign up for training.
