NEW YORK STORIES

 

In the night San Francisco 49ers shocked Green Bay, and there were two people in Harry's from South Carolina, Charles and a young, tall boy with dark hair and glasses and the boy was skinny and taller than anyone else in the bar.  In no time though Charles got the whole bar cheering for San Francisco save Mark, the very handsome bar-maid or whatever you call them with the facial hair beard or, who sported a Green Bay Packers tee and after the Packers loss as they should have Mark hopes Carolina will beat the &^^%$$$ crap out of those 9ers, and in the bar three actresses with bit part musical roles were there to celebrate one girl's birthday.  The girl, a thirty-two year old, like everyone there was thirty-two (it seemed), so I felt thirty-two, too, and the birthday girl was deaf and used sign language to communicate.  She has two children named Erica and Mason and showed all the pics of the babies as we downed shots and the strongest margaritas that after three of them and three more shots made my head spin and feared I could not walk because when I stood up I had to quickly sit back down and fall over and then it became so miserably hot in Harry's and thought I just might die right there if I didn't remove all those layers. and then she came into bar--ISABEL-and our eyes clicked and she smiled and smiled back and she announced she had an incurable hiccup and was looking for a roommate for huge flat in the West 70s, which is my favorite part of New York and where I want to live...but I would need to bring along my job to pay $1950 for the room she's renting out with use of the whole house.  Craig, the bartender, announced he had a cure for the girl's hiccup...but it was the girl's little dog we were all staring at who's fluffy head suddenly lifted up from her bag.  The asst manager, a rather handsome olive-skinned boy who had chatted my head off about San Francisco and the time he road all way from NY to San Fran on a motorcycle and that trip sounded so fun and excited, made sure she had all the papers to bring the dog into the bar.  The dog was well-behaved and everyone loved her...Coco was the dog's name and I held her so and then Coco and Isabel decided to do some a little match-making and put Charles and Michael visiting from DC together and  it was friendship at first sight...
