a statewide center for nanobiotechnology ("Center of Innovation in Nanobiotechnology") has found its first home in the triad. a great move forward for the region. it compliments the planned nanotech college for Gateway University Research Park in Greensboro. The center would connect research universities in the Triad and around the state together and with private industry on promising projects. The center will temporarily operate out of the Piedmont Triad Partnership office.

"The goal for the center is promoting the commercial development of products derived from nanobiotechnology initiatives at universities in the state, including helping to establish startup companies."

COIN has received a $2.5 million, four year grant to develop the commercial potential of nanobiotechnology research at universities. Read it here.

This is a great example of collaboration between the Triad's three largest universities: UNCG, A&T, and Wake Forest.

I hope this leads to increased nano research in the Triad, and hopefully, jobs through start-up companies and those relocating from other areas.
