I walked by today (sorry, didn't think about taking pics). Looks like they are working on the "second floor" (which seems to be about 3-4 stories up). I know there are many naysayers to this project, but I really like the way it is fitting in along Ottawa. It's going to add some really nice density. I also like the tall first story / "Mies van de the" ripoff (as some have called it). I think it'll definitely be something different from.what we have downtown.

As far as I can tell, they are pouring what is potentially the first or second floor of apartments (I don't know remember if it starts with apartments on the first floor above the lobby or if that is a common area floor). I bet it'll start going vertical pretty quick now.

I'd imagine it's not going to happen?

I don't work in the construction biz, but I have never seen a 12-story building built without out one.  Here in Austin most 6+ story apartment buildings use a tower crane.  Maybe someone in the biz could answer why this project doesn't need one.

I'm pretty sure they didn't use a tower crane when they built Gallery a few years back.  I think it's a little bit taller.

I think a lot depends on how much of the building fills the site, height (obviously), and how much manueverabilty there is. Tower cranes certainly give you less flexibility due to their fixed base.

Looking at the latest birds eye view, it's a shame they couldn't use some of the "alley" as a rooftop deck.

It looks like there still might be room, in the area between the air handling equipment and the Monroe Ave side. Wonder how loud those units would be...

What's in the BOB on that side on the 3rd floor? Bobarino's? Or the comedy club?
