I've seen drawings that looked pretty darned detailed as well, to make me think this is finally happening. Sure would like to see it finally go.

Yeah, this thing is happening. I hope October is it, and it is finally going up. The highrise is going dramatically change that corner. Now if only the Market lot would be developed....

This is one of my favorite projects that I've been looking forward to. Not only is it adding more people and density with the condos and apartments in the tower, but the venue adds another venue that we need entertainment wise that seats about just as much as the devos performance hall. It will hopefully bring bigger names here than the intersection does now and may help downtown gr be a place where things are going on more frequently. A sight that I am eager to see!

The height has changed a bit from this (chop off the top 2 floors) but the scale is still basically the same:

I thought that plan was for when the tower was 20 stories, and now its 14? Or did it change again?

It actually changed a few months ago.

It changed from 20 stories to 14 back in April i believe. I haven't heard any different since.

Oh yeah, I was thinking it went from 14 to 12 for some reason.

Probably because every other project seems to top out at 12 stories recently. Boring.

I found an image of the building at 10 floors. It looks silly. There's just so much going on and yet nothing that excites me.

I agree. I'm not quite as excited about this project as I once was. When it was potentially going to be 20 stories I was. Heck, when it was even 14 stories i was. But dropping down to 12 stories makes me feel as though it will just blend in with downtown gr and not stand out unfortunately.. We'll see though.

Maybe they're finding the market for their Arena Place Apts are not quite as hot as they had hoped.

Back in Sept 2014 I made the following prediction which turned out essentially correct:

"(Since this is now) an Orion project, to what degree do the pretty pictures evolve into a valued-engineered mass of functionality?"

I agree. I'm not quite as excited about this project as I once was. When it was potentially going to be 20 stories I was. Heck, when it was even 14 stories i was. This is exactly how i feel about it. Still, it will fill in a pretty vacant hole in the skyline from Van Andel, and that will be nice.

So this project was supposed to start on October 15th and no later than the October 19th, which is tomorrow.. Anyone believe this thing will break ground tomorrow? I am very pessimistic about it.

It obviously isn't going to happen tomorrow but I would expect it to happen very soon, by December, according to my sources, who in this case, are solid.

Don't forget 20 Fulton E, which will probably also end up at 12 stories if it ever gets built.

This will be fun to watch, with a great vantage point. FWIW, I'm not sure what the parking study said about the Fulton/Ottawa ramp occupancy rate but I had to go to almost the top floor to find a parking space today.
