Sorry to switch gears from the app for a minute, but I'd like to hear who is inviting friends and family from outside the region to come to ArtPrize. I definitely am.

I tried to get my mom to come, but she already had commitments for those two weekends and the closing weekend I'll be busy with the Colorburst Bicycle Tour. :( She was pretty bummed.

I'm going to be in Chicago the weekend of the 26th. I guess missing a few days won't be too bad. :silly:

I'm inviting friends from all over FL, CA, IN & IL. I know for sure I have friends from Chicago coming and we already booked rooms at the JW. I can't wait! This is going to be amazing.

It would be super cool if they could be 'coptered in like this:

Took a trip downtown this afternoon to scout around where I would like to do my volunteer shifts and I sure hope a lot of the road construction and other traffic impediments are finished/suspended/otherwise mitigated before this thing gets going full swing.

I understand that this is not a fire-up-the-Buick-and-drive-by-to-see-some-art type of event, but it was a CF extraordinaire to get through town and I was on a flippin' Vespa...

Let's hope the graphic imagery seared in a visitor's visual cortex is not that of an orange 'detour' sign.

I don't think they're going to have it finished. And especially with Fulton St being "ground zero" (from The BOB up to Division Ave area), it will be messy.

By stickying this topic, and the activity it generates, we are now #7 on Google for "ArtPrize Grand Rapids". Sweet!

Even walking around the Commerce and Weston intersection is tricky. Driving there is no outlet. As I was leaving from work I saw a Rapid bus turning around to get to Oaks. Driver must of turned on Weston by mistake. I hope Grand Rapids will be able to handle the "people flood" for ArtPrize.

Dates have been set for ArtPrize 2010 - Sept. 24 to Oct. 9.

Construction at 38 has move the crane to the Weston Street side. One lane of Commerce is now open.

Erwin Erkfitz doing the mural on the buildings between Oaks and Williams on Division was on Michigan Radio (NPR). Article and audio on the website here:

Erwin told me that he is going to start painting tonight. Has has white sheets penciled in thus far.

Also more photos of Imagine That! at the Childrens Museum with new "buttons" added to the building. Looks like they are going to add stuff all the way across the front of the building.

It is super cool to be able to walk around town and find ArtPrize work installed or in the works. Did some looking around on the ArtPrize site and saw other stuff that is going to be on the Blue Bridge other than the table setting on top of it. It is going to look real cool. It has also been real cool talking with the artists as they are working on their project. I took some pictures of the WING at Bridgewater Place and didn't know if it was an ArtPrize entry or not. While looking around tonight on the site, I found out that it is. WOW, there is going to be a LOT of super cool art. Sculptures are my favorite type of art.

That Bike Pedal was the original prototype and not the final design. The one that was featured in Rapid Growth and seen on the GVSU campus is the final design. We'll have one out front during ArtPrize and hopefully we'll have them scattered throughout town to be used during the competition.
