A great ArtPrize blog by Nancy Tobin, a writer/artist in New York and a native of Grand Rapids (West Catholic High School):

Here's an article she wrote in a burrough blog section of the NY Times:

Progressive to d.Ploi creation at ArtPrize

When discussing what they wanted to create, they had three goals in mind. First, they wanted their entry to be sustainable. Second, they wanted to demonstrate what they do in the architectural industry -- so they wanted it to not only be artistic, but also relate to "space" in some way. Finally, they wanted to make sure it had a "second life" -- that it could be used after ArtPrize.

I agree Veloise, the GRPD wall should be a prime target for Art Prize 2010!

Stumbling across the Facebook page for the JA building artist effort, I have suggested it to them.

Found one that I haven't seen or heard about at the YMCA. Bunch of new photos added.

ArtPrize '09 Set

That one is made from strips of packing foam (recycling!) affixed to a metal stem. At night it's illuminated and looks ethereal.

BREAKING NEWS:

Michael Glenn Monroe was welding on his The Sharing Tree ( fondly known as "Woody" ) Project at the Cathedral Square and the tree caught fire. His ArtPrize page is: http://www.artprize.org/artist/id/946

Mr. Monroe was quite shook up by the incident.

I have a short video that is uploading to Flickr now along with photos. The video is being processed now with photos going up now, in the ArtPrize Fire set:

I'm no metallurgist so I'm really curious how a steel and cement sculpture catches fire and burns so completely? What a shame. This looks like it was a cool sculpture and it sucks that A) Knuckleheads in the area couldn't just leave it alone, and B) That it is now lost.

Don't know if this will be "the largest" entry, but the furniture table is being erected now to go on the Blue Bridge:

And some controversy surrounding the ArtPrize shuttle bus route and not hitting close to all of the venues:
