Staff file photo by Les Minor Dirt work is done at the future site of Interstate 49 near Doddridge, Ark.The influx of federal money will further the local portion of Interstate 49, but four miles of construction will still be needed to connect the highway at the Louisiana/Arkansas state line.

Almost $40 million is going to the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department for I-49 work near the Louisiana border and inside Texarkana, Ark. The bulk will pay to complete an Arkansas Boulevard connection to I-49 via I-30.

The rest will complete dirt work and drainage on almost 2.5 miles of highway from Doddridge to County Road 2, which is two miles short of the state line.
