Recent video from "North Carolina Weekend" about the history of Mast General Stores which is based in the state.  Not in Charlotte but could possibly be a unique destination spot for Southend!!

I’m not expecting too much. We will see.  As I am 100% Greek I’ll say Mad Greek is not very authentic.  The best Greek restaurant in Charlotte is Sister (which is where Kiki was)….although it’s not a full Greek menu anymore their selections/items are the best hands down.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that the ridiculous piece of steel pipe sticking out of South Blvd in front of the Lowes has finally been removed and paved over.  It has irrationally bothered me that the city didn't address that for so many years.  I realize that it wasn't a massive danger, but if you drive a car with sport/low profile tires it was quite jarring and I've seen too many people try to swerve at the last minute and startling the car next to them.  With the increased pedestrian activity there that really could have caused some harm.

Add a Waffle House and Tremont would be a solid late night food strip. (Dumplings, Bennies and…)

Does anyone know the reason for the halting of the residential project on the Palmer's automotive lot?  I was interested in seeing how that one turned out.

Unfortunately, I think more projects will face this same dead end with the way that interest rates are going up.

Its not so much financing fell through as they sold it at one price, went to start building, audited their Pro Forma and realized they priced units 200K+ too low compared to construction prices.

Ok. Hear me out. SouthEnd needs a Wegmans. ASAP…. That is top of my wishlist. Even though I don’t shop at Wegmans (and I don’t live in Charlotte lol) but man IMO a Wegmans would be a great draw. And it just seems so right. I bet it would kill it in SouthEnd. 

I always thought wegmans were more suburban but they have a robust amount of urban stores. 

Here are some renderings of the Wegmans in DC, Tyson’s, Alexandria and Reston (Reston is about to open the others all are. They’re over 80,000 Sq. Ft) the largest Harris Teeter in NC isn’t even over 80k sq. Ft. For anyone who needs a size reference.

Honestly a Wegmans plus a Waffle House would make Southend one of the most desirable neighborhoods in the country. (there is only a tinge of sarcasm here).

A TOUS les JOURS branch is working on interior upfit in the space adjacent to Snooze. Was shocked to see how crowded the Piedmont Row store was yesterday.

I have heard from two people that the Sandwich Max/Bei Jing spot at the corner of Park and South is going to be turned into a high-rise, but I've heard no chatter on UP about it. Any truth to this?

It has been discussed in the Southend High Rise thread.  Sterling Bay is the developer and they are planning a 30-40 story apartment building.

I am super bummed that Paranoia Pinball / Palmer street now appears to be permanently shut down. I know this is ground zero for the Gold District redevelopment, but still I naively held out hope it could make it to the end of their lease.  Was a great place to play, machines always in top condition.
