THE WORLD - DUBAI

Recommended Posts

Dubia really doesn't have a whole lot of traditional muslim buildings with the older stuff. Back in the 50's Dubai was nothing more than a port town of around 50,000 people. The Big Boom really didn't come unitll the mid to late 1990's when all the buildings began flocking to Dubai.

Ah I see, thanks for the info. With all that's been going on is there any plans for a newer impressive mosque to be built?

There are a couple of nice modern mosques that I know of, one in Iraq and one in Morroco.

I guess I'm just used to hearing about more contemporary and older looking mosques than modern ones. I guess some of the big cities in the US have modern mosques as well.

Sorry maybe I've confused you. I wasn't necessarily talking about a particular style. I just meant modern as recently built. Although I could see Dubai building something modernistic looking at some of the other developments. I realize many of these new developments will be focusing on foreign tourist who likely may not be muslim. But just thought maybe they'd eventually build some rather impressive mosque.

I actually searched the internet and found some good looking modern mosques. I guess I'm more of an old fashioned person instead of the new age trend that's going on.

I've been finding a few pics here and there. I'd like to find some more before I try a topic focusing on mosques and/or traditional architecture of the general area.

Yes, Australia was bought and will be turned into a resort called Oquiana. Greenland is gone too I think. We don't really know too much. Nakheel never give out info for some reason.

lol, that got me thinking.

Are they actually going to try to divide the U.S. island into individual states, or are they going to divide it into sections, the southest, northeast, etc.?

That sounds like a lot of work to me. I figured they'd just focus on the continents and that's it. But then again I guess'd never know what Dubai might do. :D

That is what I had thought, but I have seen some pictures and plans that have the major continents divided into seperate sections.

I think the US will be divided into sections. I know most countries will have their own, but since the US is so big, I'm pretty sure it's being split up.

How many coral reefs will be ruined by this? UAE has a perfectly beautiful coast line, why keep building fake islands and damage the sea?

I'm sure one was done, but does anybody have details on the environmental impact, either positive or negative?

You know what else would be awesome, they've probably already thought of it; sight-seeing submarines as an option for transit to and fro, in and around the project.

Dubai is building an artificial Coral Reef right now, to provide a haven for marine life, as well to make it the Surf Capitol of the Gulf.

Also dpbaker, you may not get submarine rides in the future, but Dubai is building an underwater hotel right now.

Visitors from around the world will soon be able to experience first hand what it is like to live on a man-made island in the Gulf. Dubai property giant Nakheel is planning to build a 130-room hotel on its islands development The World, which is currently under construction off the coast of Dubai.

Sultan Ahmad Bin Sulayem told Gulf News that the company was planning to build the hotel on the Greenland portion of the multi-billion dollar islands development. The hotel for The World will be based on the One&Only Hotel in the Maldives, and at the moment we think it's going to be on the Greenland island.

The One&Only brand is managed by Kerzner International, a leading developer and operator of resorts, casinos and luxury resorts. When it is completed, the hotel at The World will be the second One&Only property to be located in Dubai.

The current One&Only Royal Mirage hotel is located on Jumeirah Beach near Nakheel's The Palm development and is a highly sought-after retreat among well-heeled holidaymakers from around the world.

Kerzner currently manages seven One&Only hotels around the world all in top top-rated destinations such as the Bahamas, Dubai, Maldives, Mauritius and Mexico.
