I think they should allow something within the city limits that is close to the convention center.

Exaclty. Or something by the airport. Let's get businessmen & women here for conventions to spend. And hopefully draw in a few more conventions while we're at it.

I don't see anything wrong with Orlando becoming a bit more Vegas.

OBT has abunch of that stuff on it; Rachel's in Cass and on Orange & SLR, 17/92 still has Circus Circus but lost Iguana and Sassy's a while back... those places go in dumpy areas. the only way to make it work is for it to be a high dollar venue with a reputation, otherwise it will be a dive.

how about a gun range/strip club? Best of both worlds...to some...

Personally, I see nothing wrong with strip clubs & porn shops opening within the city limits...or even down by the convention center. Orlando DOES need to grow up a little...after all, too much "Mickey Clean" can get REALLY annoying! Orlando has strived and vehemently protected to develop a "family friendly" atmosphere. IMO, it's at the cost of more "grown up" entertainment options. Blue Man group and Cirque do NOT count as "grown up" entertainment. Any place where you can take the kids is not "grown up" IMO.

South OBT is already our "unofficial" Red Light District...why not embrace it? Allow full nudity in the strip clubs, do away with those pasties covering the nips, and how about we even open an all MALE strip club??? I'm sure there are lots of professional women (and gay men for that matter) coming to Orlando looking for something other than CityWalk and Disney...why not give them what they want and reep the tax benefits in return?

IMHO, Orlando is a dirty town outside of the parks. OBT is seedy; parts of 192 are as well. There's porn shops on OBT, 50, 192, 17/92, and strip joints on 17/92, Orange Ave (Taft), 436, 50, and OBT. Did I miss any? Tampa is dirty for supplying the porn industry with good talent and having strip joints. Orlando is right up there too.

lots of scum go to these places. to make it work, you need big money places where the scum can't get in. kind of like in Miami where they let women in for free and if you're a guy who's alone, you pay up the nose; if you are a couple, you pay less; etc...

I have been to plenty of strip clubs in Miami and New York and would like to know what is the City of Orlando/Orange County's policies on adult venues? Is it full body nudity and touching or not? I want to know why there isn't a major strip club scene to my knowledge.....I'm pretty sure somebody knows the answer to this question.

I used to date a dancer so I have a little bit of knowledge on this. I am sure I don't have everything correct. There is not full nudity in Orange county. A bottom piece is required as well as pasties covering the nipples. A distance rule is in effect too. I believe it is something like four to six feet. Basically a dancer cannot touch the customer and vice versa. Also, the way in which they touch themselves is very closely watched. They can get canned for moving the show from R to NC-17 if you know what I mean. There are no enclosed VIP rooms allowed. VIP areas that are open to the rest of the club are ok. Essentially, these rules strip (no pun intended) any intimacy or the opportunity for something naughty to happen from the equation. Makes for a very sterile feeling environment if you ask me. Certainly the powers that be want to decrease the desirability level, for lack of a better term, in order to keep the industry in check. But I think the way Tampa operates puts it on the very opposite end of the spectrum. I have went out there with some friends and it usually feels borderline seedy to me.

Spend a night in Berlin, Tampa would look like child's play.

I firmly believe Orlando is going to have to provide more adult entertainment if it ever wishes to maximize use of the convention center. I also believe Disney can compartmentalize themselves and their "family image" without too much difficulty. I do wonder how Universal/Sea World, etc., will accept such a move, and whether Harris Rosen, Rich Maladecki, etc., can convince the "family values" crowd that such a transition is necessary for the health of the local economy. It will be interesting to watch.
