Wildfire in Myrtle Beach area

6 posts in this topic

Is this crazy or what? I wonder what started it? I'm sure a few people's plans for this weekend are spoiled.

IMO, forest fires, whether intentional or not, are necessary. We spend entirely too much time putting them out. I have the same attitude about these as I do the ones in California every year. The more we put out the fires instead of letting them burn, the more likely it is to cause bigger fires in the future. We're fighting nature, which has consistently shown to be a futile endeavor. Protect most of the houses and businesses then let it burn.

Why isn't there a Myrtle Beach/Grand Strand forum? They've got enough development to warrant it's own section by now, right?

^We did have a Myrtle Beach/Grand Strand forum. The issue wasn't about development, but activity--which was rather low.

Those southern yellow pine forests tend to burn from time to time mostly due to lightening strikes. This is part of their life cycle. It's the very reckless development that has taken place in the Myrtle Beach area that has put people in harms way when this happens. Allegedly this fire was caused by an individual, but they have not yet released many details on it.

Yep. It basically sat inactive for about a year, except for the occasional update from monsoon, so we axed it. If anyone lives in the MB/Grand Strand Area or is otherwise able to keep us updated on the projects there we can look at reopening one. Also, we generally don't create forums for cities unless the activity level warrants it. We can pin important threads for now, until that activity reaches an acceptable level. If any lurkers are out there, please sign up and help us out.
