NC finished up in 4th place nationally of new and expanding firms according to Site Selection magazine. And Charlotte was in the top 10 of larger metro areas. http://www.bizjournals.com/charlotte/news/2017/03/02/n-c-takes-4th-place-in-governors-cup-charlotte.html?ana=RSS%26s%3Darticle_search&utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

^ which is down from 2nd place last year and #1 in 2010.

(sorry to be a downer but trajectory is relevant here.)

Actually it was the exact same rank in 2015 and 2016  Here is the magazine article http://siteselection.com/issues/2017/mar/cover.cfm   According to the NC Economic forecast that I attended today at UNC Charlotte NC created 85,200 net jobs last year and the projection is for 85,000 again this year. He projects unemployment to remain the same in NC due to our growing labor force due to in-migration.

US Bank is up to 620 jobs in Charlotte now and is still expanding all due to the local talent pool. No incentives given just a company deciding to locate here to take advantage of our local labor force. I sure hope they consolidate their space somewhere in Charlotte as they are in Hearst Plaza and 200 South Tryon now in over 100,000 sq ft. http://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/business/banking/bank-watch-blog/article137572393.html

Via Bloomberg:

So high-end white-collar jobs (tech jobs generally pay pretty well, and LinkedIn appeals mostly to "knowledge workers") continue to concentrate in a limited number of big metro areas. Still, Dallas and Phoenix don't immediately spring to mind as tech hubs -- and other metro areas showing double-digit growth in tech employment since 2010 include Charlotte, North Carolina; Indianapolis; Madison, Wisconsin; and Jacksonville, Florida. In LinkedIn's report, the Charlotte; West Palm Beach, Florida; Tampa-St. Petersburg, Florida; Nashville, Tennessee; Las Vegas; and Dallas areas all were in the top 10 for job growth. And the metro areas with the fastest job growth in Kolko's survey were Deltona-Daytona Beach, Florida; Provo-Orem, Utah; and Boise, Idaho.

And for those of you who have fought in the trenches of the great "Charlotte, NC" war don't miss this footnote:

Quote

Why am I listing some cities with their states and some without? Because I'm following official Bloomberg News style, that's why! The assumption is that readers all over the world have heard of Seattle and Denver, but might still be a little puzzled by Austin (I would bet that sometime in the next decade we will switch to writing Austin without the "Texas") or wonder whether I'm talking about Portland, Oregon, or Portland, Maine.

I think we should all be watching all the banks in uptown very closely. Bofa, Ally and US Bank are stuffed to the brim.

RDF, what about WF, you teased that maybe they were involved in the lot across from DEC, between Gantt and church?

You should definitely follow WF. You should just follow the other three closer, as they have deals in the works CURRENTLY. Instead of "getting their ducks in a row" as I'd say about WF.

You just got me all excited.  That sounds like some promising possibilities? Currently in works to fill space coming online or currently in works to add something we don't know about yet?

Wells Fargo is in a growth mode for sure but they do have 287,000 sq ft coming online in Ballantyne but dont count them out uptown either. California everyday makes it more difficult to operate in and with bank profits under pressure low cost places to do business are preferred. And Charlotte fits that to a T!

Charlotte is the best spot in the country for finance workers given our salaries and cost of living according to this study and for technology jobs. This is from LinkedIn and Zillow. This is why Bank of America and Wells are hiring lots of people here even if they wont announce it.   Jobs will go to where the employees want to live and Charlotte is one of those places. http://www.bizjournals.com/charlotte/news/2017/03/16/finance-workers-this-is-why-you-want-to-live-in.html

Bank of America is committing $1.5 million to the Fintech initiative in Charlotte. We have a couple firms already in this space but we should be a leader in this with our banking expertise. http://www.bizjournals.com/charlotte/news/2017/03/29/bank-of-america-to-commit-1-5m-to-charlotte-s.html?ana=e_ae_set1&s=scroll&ed=2017-03-29&u=oAaDx%2B74FoP4qOJ%2By4AU6dhJPpc&t=1490815988&j=77780571

The deal fell apart ... again.

Where have you read that? The twitter account that it is from hasn't reported that, and neither has the Observer- which currently has the headliner as "Negotiations on possible HB2 changes continue into evening"

All these so called companies who were holding out...we will see if all that was a lie. I am sure liberals will come up with some reason with the companies never come. Like the 1000 plus in Raleigh...lol

Holding out isnt the same thing and shouldn't dismiss those which have already gone elsewhere.
