I hope it is Costar and I have not heard anything else in the Atlanta Business Chronicle since the story I saw saying they were looking at Charlotte or Kansas City. They would be good fit for Charlotte and they know where they could find affordable office space for sure.

CoStar doesn't strike me an an incentive deal. I'm hoping this is something we don't know about. Don't be hoping for a small announcement like costar, hope for something bigger.

Regions Bank, from what I've pieced together from RDF's past posts, will be taking space in the Portman tower.

I hope the meeting was for something else we don't know about though.

That would be might hope as well. I don't know why anyone would root for incentives for any of the expansions we know about. CoStar, Regions and Duke. I've also heard rumors about Verizon, and US Bank looking.

Alevo which moved into the old Phillip Morris plant in Concord has added 75 jobs in the last year. They took no state or local incentives but cited at the time the existing large plant saved them something like $100 million in start up costs. It also helps one of their major supplier Parker Hannifin in located in southwest Charlotte. This is a subscriber only article I think: http://www.bizjournals.com/charlotte/blog/power_city/2016/08/alevo-close-to-first-commercial-power-storage.html?ana=twt

Being able to repurpose such a massive plant is amazing.  It other regions that would just sit vacant for decades until it needed to be demolished.  It's also really cool that it went from producing something 'bad' to something good/green.

I wonder how accurate this old article from 2014 is in suggesting this site could eventually employ 6,000.  My understanding is the plant only employed 2,500.

they are anticipating having an energy related industrial park on the land surrounding the plant and they talked about the potential for 5000 jobs with their suppliers and ancillary businesses. That has not happened yet of course but it this plant is a good start.

Great start.

Amazon is hiring for their new Charlotte facility and maybe expanding the building by 100.000 sq ft. Amazon does not make splashy announcements by there are adding possibly 100s of jobs here in Charlotte in addition to their Concord facility. http://www.bizjournals.com/charlotte/news/2016/08/29/amazon-com-seeks-several-positions-for-charlotte.html  Another plus on this particular building is that the last tenant added solar panels on the roof so I am sure Amazon liked that.

Here is the Charlotte O's story on the new Amazon warehouse off Wilkinson Blvd. If the Concord facility employs 360 this one will be higher than that. It is twice as big and I drove by today and they are grading additional parking everywhere and it looks like it might be expanded in the back another 100K feet.   Looks like additional truck and employee parking. This is a big win for Charlotte but probably no big announcement or press other than these stories. The Business Journal broke this a while back. http://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/business/article98859962.html

Here are better photos of Amazon's new warehouse off Old Dowd and Wilkinson and they did expand the building to just over 500.000 sq ft which is 2.5 times larger than their Concord facility that employs about 300 or so. Lots of new parking for employees and trucks. 1st photo shows expansion to the right side.  This is a fulfillment center which is different than the sorting center in Concord. This is what they have in Columbia and they are larger and employ more. I gleaned this from their job postings https://www.amazon.jobs/en/locations/charlotte-northcarolina?base_query=&job_count=10&result_limit=10&sort=relevant&location[]=charlotte-northcarolina&cache

JLL's new technology real estate report is out. It shows good growth in technology employment in the Charlotte area 17% in the last 2 years. It also ranks Charlotte as Lower cost and Higher industry Opportunity market.  In a recent article in Business NC they talked about AvidXchange and how it is easy to start a company in Silicon Valley but how costly it is to scale it to 1000 employees there. That is where Charlotte shines it is much more affordable to scale up tech companies here.

You can download it for free here

Small European Czech Republic based soccer arena company opens first office in North America here in Charlotte. Probably just a few jobs now but these type of operations have a way of expanding over time.  (it is easier to look at their website to see what products they sell)
