Today's CBJ,  "The 25 hottest housing markets: How the Covid-19 pandemic has shaped where people buy homes" by Ashley Fahey

Excerpt "The housing market has been on absolute fire, especially since the Covid-19 pandemic."  "Some of the markets we've ranked as the "hottest," based on the formula and our analysis, likely won't be a surprise.  Sun Belt cities like Austin, Texas, and Charlotte, North Carolina, have seen a surge in population, even prior to the pandemic, bolstering the housing markets of those cities.  Several Sun Belt markets also ranked among the top metros for job growth during the economic recovery from Covid-19."

Here is the latest market report for Charlotte office market.  I would say the market has stabilized and starting to improve.  Vacancy is up but sublease space growth has slowed.

Note the new leases like the big one for Credit Karma in the new Overlook tower at Ballantyne over 94,000 sq ft.

There is a flight to quality buildings either new or highly amenitized.

Today's CBJ "Outside Magazine names Charlotte among 'most livable'  places in America" by Jen Wilson

Excerpt:  "Despite receiving dismal ratings for parks in recent years, Charlotte has earned a lofty spot on Outside Magazine's list of "The 20 Most Livable Towns and Cities in America."  The feature considers WalletHub reports on diversity and sustainability,  Zillow data on housing affordability and the Trust for Public Land's parks report — where the Queen City has shown some improvement — to determine its ranking.  Charlotte is listed second, trailing only Atlanta, on Outside's list.  The magazine credits a growing local greenway network as well as the U.S. National Whitewater Center as the area's key assets.  It also makes reference the  recently opened Innovation Barn among the city's sustainability efforts.  Coming in third on the list is St. Paul, Minnesota, with Albuquerque and Philadelphia rounding out the top five."

Good news! Hopefully we can make the Queens Park concept ong with more pocket parks into a reality so our number of parks will go up.  Those population figures in the Outside magazine rankings are suspect though...

From Business NC magazine:   ""Shark Tank, the CNBC show that has popularized the business pitch process, is scheduled to feature TheMagic5, a Charlotte-based company that makes custom-fitted swimming goggles on Friday. The business is owned and operated by three natives of Denmark including Bo Haaber, who lives in Charlotte.  The company's hook is that its robot technology and 3D printing process helps it create better, face-fitting goggles. They are priced at $55 to $65, according to the company's website. Its investors and endorsers include Matt Grevers, who won four gold medals at the Olympic Games in 2008 and 2012.""
